Ryzen 9 7950X is up to 62% faster than the i9-12900K: AMD recently held an event over on its YouTube channel named “together we advance PCs”. In that event, AMD revealed some very enticing information about Zen 4 CPUs in general.
However, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su delved into a little more detail with the Ryzen 9 7950X, listing it’s performance specifically against the competition’s flagship, the Intel Core i9-12900K. Lisa also gave us a little rundown on the performance of the Ryzen 5 7600X in F1 2022.
Ryzen 9 7950X is up to 62% faster than the i9-12900K
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, during the “together we advance PCs” event, compared the performance of the Ryzen 9 7950X to that of the Intel Core i9-12900K. The two flagships battled it out in eight applications.
The benchmarks took place in four games and four “creator” orientated programs, these were DOTA 2, SOTTR, Borderlands 3, and CS:GO. The creator-focused programs consisted of V-Ray, Blender, Cinebench R23, and POV-Ray.
Here are the results of the comparison with the 12900K. Shows the 7950X performing better in almost every scenario. A little less cherry-picked this time around, proving AMD means business
Generational gaming performance
- DOTA 2 + 23% increase
- Shadow of the tomb raider + 14% increase
- Borderlands 3 = TIE
- CS:GO – 1% decrease
Generational creator performance
- V-Ray Render + 62%% increase
- Blender Render + 36% increase
- Cinebench R23 nT + 41% increase
- POV-Ray + 41% increase
As you can see, the Ryzen 9 7950X puts those cores to good use in multi-threaded “creator-orientated” tasks. But then again, AMD has always had the lead in multi-threaded performance. Intel has always held its own in single-core performance.
What is interesting to note is the blatant single-core performance increase that gives an advantage in some games. DOTA 2 is a relatively easy game to run for most systems, but a performance increase of 23% is still a considerably large performance increase no matter what.
On the top end of the performance scale, we can see the 7950X outperform the 12900K in the V-Ray benchmark.
The Core i9-12900K scored a respectable 18,646 points, whereas the 7950X dominated with a score of 30,210 points. A 62% performance increase.
Ryzen 9 7950X vs Ryzen 9 5950X
During AMD’s event, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su also compared the Ryzen 9 7950X to the previous generation Ryzen 9 5950X. Obviously, the Ryzen 9 7950X came out on top by a significant margin – The word “obliterated” comes to mind.
Here are the results of the comparison with the 5950X.
Generational gaming performance
- DOTA 2 + 32% increase
- Shadow of the tomb raider + 35% increase
- Borderlands 3 + 6% increase
- CS:GO +13% increase
Generational creator performance
- V-Ray Render + 48% increase
- Blender Render + 30% increase
- Cinebench R23 nT + 48% increase
- POV-Ray + 45% increase
