As a first step to figuring out whether you can play DIRT 5 on your machine, you need to know what components you have with a notable emphasis on the CPU, GPU, and RAM. These widely determine if and how well the game will run.

If you need help doing this, you can consult our easy to follow step-by-step guide right here.

From there, simply compare your findings to the minimum and recommended specifications for DIRT 5 we’ve compiled below to check whether your gaming rig is up to the task. As a general rule, we suggest aiming to meet or surpass the recommended requirements to avoid any performance hiccups. If your hardware falls short, then you’ll need to consider an upgrade.

To make the process easier and take some of the tedium out of the whole task of checking system requirements, we are developing a tool designed to automatically scan your machine, then list a detailed breakdown of all the components. It’s still cooking away in the great WePC forge at the moment, but rest assured we’ll be sure to publish an update once it’s fit for purpose and ready for our readers to use.

In a very strange turn of events, Codemasters actually increased the recommended system requirements for Dirt 5 after initially publishing them, where now they recommend more high end processors and GPUs from AMD, we’ve taken a look at this unusual situation in depth over here, but you can see the updated system requirements below.

Here are the official system requirements from Codemasters themseves. They fall more or less where you’d expect, with little to no surprises as to what you’ll need to boot up and enjoy the racing sim.

The minimum system requirements should net you 30-40 FPS at 720p. Both the processor and GPU requirements are fairly undemanding. In the case of the GPU, it’s long been superseded by newer models and as such picking up, or already owning, an NVIDIA GTX 970 or AMD RX 480 shouldn’t be too hard and won’t stretch a build budget. The 8 GB of RAM is a little at odds with the rest of the requirements list, but nothing that most modern builds won’t already have.

Jumping to the recommended system requirements, you can expect a solid 60 FPS at 1080p if not higher. The GPU and CPU requirements do up the demands quite considerably compared to the minimum requirements, so do bear that in mind. You’ll also need a chunky 16 GB of RAM to ensure good performance out of DIRT 5.

Recommendations depend on what kind of performance you’re striving for. For the sake of example, we’ll aim for a build that strikes a nice balance between budget and performance. We recommend our $600 build as a good starting point to play DIRT 5. The build features Radeon RX 580 GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and a roomy 500 GB SSD.

If you’re looking to really put DIRT 5 through its paces, then we suggest taking a peek at our $800 build. It features an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, RX 5500 XT GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 500 GB SSD.
