Another Netflix video game adaptation is in the works. Following on from the success of The Witcher series and recent announcements such as the Splinter Cell adaptation, it looks like we’re seeing a trend of Netflix video game adaptations.

This time, it’s a Beyond Good & Evil adaptation. Beyond Good & Evil is a somewhat cult Ubisoft game so it’s interesting to see something unexpected make its way over to the silver screen.

First appearing in 2003 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC, Beyond Good & Evil’s story centers around a remote mining planet in the 25th century. You play as Jade, a rebellious action reporter on a mission to learn the truth of the government’s dealings with the alien invaders.

Ubisoft said in a statement that they are “excited to work with Netflix on the Beyond Good & Evil feature film and we look forward to sharing more in the future”. Ubisoft are already working with Netflix on the Splinter Cell animated series which was only recently announced so it sounds like they’re going to have a lot on their plate.

This adaptation is the early stages so not a whole lot of information is available right now. On board  to direct is Rob Letterman, director of Detective Pikachu and Goosebumps. Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin are also signed up to produce the Beyond Good & Evil movie. The small team is currently on the lookout for writers to adapt the game so it really is early days.

It also sounds like this will be a movie adaptation rather than a TV series, which was confirmed on the NXOnNetflix Twitter account.

When we’ll see this movie is anyone’s guess right now, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for any news.

A sequel to Beyond Good & Evil is also in the works. Ubisoft announced the game would get a sequel back in 2017 at E3. However, not a lot is known about the sequel yet. The latest update we heard was from November 2019 when Ubisoft released details of character customization options and world lore.

Apart from that, there’s not a lot to go on. Perhaps we will learn more about the sequel as the new Netflix movie starts to gain some attention.

If we hear any updates about the Netflix movie or the upcoming sequel, we will keep you in the loop. Be sure to check back here for the latest news.
