Pictures of a leaked GB203 GPU engineering sample have surfaced; expected to power the RTX 5080/5090 laptop series.
Moore’s Law is Dead, a popular tech YouTuber, has just obtained a picture of a potential GB203 GPU, which is said to feature in Nvidia’s flagship laptop GPUs. The YouTuber claims he got this information from his long-term Nvidia source, who also mentioned that a laptop RTX 5080 with 8,196 CUDA cores is in the pipeline. While he can’t 100% confirm these leaks, he believes that the information from his sources “makes sense”.
NVIDIA Blackwell GB203 GPU allegedly pictured
Moore’s Law is Dead shares pictures of the alleged GB203 GPU around 2:20 into the video. The image shows a N22W-ES-A1 sample, labeled as an “Eng Sample” or an engineering sample. The “22” family belongs to the Blackwell GPU series, which will include six variants: X11, X9, X7, X6, X4, and X2. The YouTuber believes this particular GB203 is likely to be used in the RTX 5080 and 5090 laptop GPUs while the desktop GPUs are likely going to use the GB202.
To further prove this point, the YouTuber also claims that his Nvidia source mentioned a GB203 laptop GPU featuring 8,196 CUDA cores and 16GB of DDR7 VRAM. Since there hasn’t been any information about a potential Ti variant or a SUPER version for laptops, there is a strong chance these specs and leaked pictures are for an alleged RTX 5080 laptop GPU.
NVIDIA RTX 5080 laptop GPU to be faster than previous generation
The YouTuber also believes this rumored RTX 5080 laptop GPU will significantly outperform the previous RTX 40 series laptop GPUs and may even rival desktop variants. Moore’s Law is Dead suggests that if Nvidia clocks the GDDR7 to 28 Gbps (or higher) and if we assume all models are 175 watts, we can expect three major performance improvements.
- I estimate this configuration is 45-65% faster than the laptop RTX 4080 12GB!
- I estimate this configuration is 10-25% faster than the laptop RTX 4090 16 GB!
- I estimate this configuration is around a DESKTOP RTX 4070 Ti SUPER or 4080!
Remember, these are just the YouTuber’s personal expectations based on the information he has gathered, and there is no official confirmation from Nvidia to support these claims. However, if Nvidia is already sending out samples to board partners, a Q1 2025 launch seems very likely. The RTX 50 series desktop GPUs are expected to be unveiled at CES 2025, where a possible laptop reveal may also occur.
