With the pattern of PlayStation releases, many are expecting a PS5 Slim release date to be on the horizon, but when could it be heading our way? There seems to be a lot going on at Sony, between this, the codename PlayStation Q, and more.

What was rumored for a long time to potentially be a PS5 Pro, many have been disappointed by the official announcement of the ‘new PS5’. Since Sony won’t itself name the PS5 Slim and in fact, it’s just going to be the new default option. Now with the option to add the disc to the Digital Edition that allows you do not have to decide on price vs features as you can add it down the line. So when can you expect to see the new look of the PS5 Slim?

PS5 Slim release date window

Looking back at the PlayStation console generations, we see that the PS4 was released in 2013 and was followed by the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim three years later in 2016. If we apply this three-year gap to the PS5, which was released in 2020, we can predict that the PS5 Slim may arrive in late 2023, potentially alongside a ‘PS5 Pro’.

Now we see that we were rather spot on with when the console will be coming. In its announcement, Sony is preparing the new-sized console for the holiday season. It stated that the new PS5 Slim model will be available starting in November in the US at certain retailers and directly from PlayStation. Then across the world in the following months after the stock of initial PS5s is out.

That does mean, those in the US might be lucky enough to get some new PS5 Slims in Black Friday sales. Or if there is still stock of the older choice you’re likely going to see that first. Since there will be no distinction over which one you’re getting, it might not be so easy to see.,

PS5 Slim price

Sony recently announced that PS5 price to increase in select markets due to the global economic environment, including high inflation rates.

We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries

This could mean that mid-gen upgrades could make less sense, however, a console like the PS5 Slim may still be a viable option for those who do not own a PlayStation, if it gets made at all that is. Because we saw the PS4 Slim come out cheaper than the original, we initially assumed the PS5 Slim would likely be cheaper.

Since the PS5 Slim is in fact a replacement for the console, it is seemingly continuing the pricing of it directly. Following the rise in price outlined in its blog post, the new announcement gives ut the pricing you can expect for the PS5 Slim as follows.

Should I wait for the PS5 Slim?

At this point it doesn’t really matter if you wait or not, the PS5 Slim is coming as a replacement for the whole option. In that case, you may want to decide if you want the smaller option to choose from. But it also means going for the Digital Option doesn’t limit you if you want an upgrade at some point in the future.

Waiting might give you a good deal on the original PS5 too, as with the holiday season coming, you might find some great deals on them. There is no definitive date so it might be hard to even realise which version of the console you’re getting.
