Samsung has just announced the ISOCELL HP2, a new 200-megapixel camera sensor that is poised to be included in the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra. It has already entered mass production, just in time for the launch of Samsung’s new flagship smartphone. This new sensor fits the rumored Galaxy S23 Ultra specs perfectly with a size of 1/1.3 inches and 0.6μm (micrometer) pixels and is set to revolutionize the way we capture and experience images on our smartphones.

For years, Samsung has been pushing the boundaries of photography with its high-resolution sensors, but the ISOCELL HP2 takes it to a whole new level. This sensor almost doubles the resolution of last year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, which featured a 108-megapixel sensor. It’s like having a professional camera in your pocket, ready to capture stunning images and videos at any moment.

The ISOCELL HP2 sensor boasts advanced pixel-binning technology that allows it to gather more light and detail. To be more concise, it can bin every four pixels to effectively make them 1.2μm in size and produce 50-megapixel images. It can also bin 16 pixels for even larger 2.4μm pixels and 12.5-megapixel images. The 1.2μm mode is used to record 8K video at 30fps, and the sensor is also amazing for filming in 4K HDR at 60fps.

To reduce overexposure and produce better colors in bright conditions, the ISOCELL HP2 uses a new technology Samsung calls “Dual Vertical Transfer Gate”. Moreover, it’s also equipped with “Super QPD” technology in low light for faster auto-focusing.
