With the release of new platforms like AM5 and Intel’s 12th Gen you also get upgraded interconnectivity. And one feature you might consider is where to buy PCIe Gen 5 SSD.
Using the new PCIe generation doubles the potential bandwidth of the connection. It is utilized both by the GPU and NVMe so can be limited but unlikely.
The primary change between these is speed and it goes from 7.8 GB/s on an x4 slot to 15.8 GB/s. So you can have much faster loading times and transfer speeds.
Now they have been slow to release. Promised alongside the new hardware, there has been a lack of products in stores. So we go through all the places you might find some stock when it eventually comes out.
Potential PCIe Gen 5 SSD release date
Now that Ryzen 7000 has been released we’d expect the new NVMEs to have launched alongside them. However, that’s not the case and the market lacking in them. So with no news on the SSDs, we expect some time in the last quarter of 2022.
AMD is also set to launch RDNA 3 GPUs and X3D CPUs sometime as well. So that may be another milestone for storage manufacturers to use as a launch date.

Are there PCIe Gen 5 SSDs?
At the moment, there are no PCIe Gen 5 SSDs on the market. They were promised to launch alongside AM5 so we do expect them to come out anytime soon in the last quarter of 2022. Once out they will pair nicely with the capabilities of the new platforms.
Where can you buy a PCIe Gen 5 SSD?
At the moment there is no stock. The SSDs have promised to come with the new platforms. But they haven’t quite yet so you might have to wait a bit yet. But when they do we expect them to come out at the usual retailers. These will likely be Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg in US and Canada. Whilst in the UK we might expect Amazon, Scan, Overclockers, and Ebuyer.
