Design

The OneOdio A70s bear a slight resemblance to the A30s, with a more industrial style. The moving parts are exposed as opposed to shrouded in plastic. Upon first glance, these are very attractive headphones with limited branding only appearing on the headband and on each earcup. The ‘classic’ brown and silver color combo is classy too. Other colorways are available, with Black, Red, and Gold as options. The angled hinges do create a bulky overall silhouette, so if you are looking for a low-profile set of headphones, look elsewhere. The wide flanges on the exterior of the earcups and the aggressively positioned hinges remind us of old school 60s headphones – a classy design aesthetic from which to take inspiration.

Build Quality

In a word? Brittle. The hinges and other such moving parts feel like they will wear quickly and the plastic used here is uncomfortably light and feels slippery to the touch. The faux leather used in the headband and over the padding in the earcups feels soft but very thin which could lead to cracking and other such wear sooner than you’d like. The cables provided are utilitarian in construction, no fanciful braiding here. As with the A30s, the headband feels like it’s at risk of being permanently bent due to the conspicuously thin metal used here. The locking 3.5mm connection is an interesting feature, but seems like it’s more adept at damaging the headphones instead of preventing disconnection, a flawed solution for a problem that doesn’t occur often. The build quality falls just under par for the $45 price point.

Comfort

The A70s win a few points back here. The soft faux leather combined with the lightweight construction results in an impressively effortless fit. The earcups are a little too small and sit directly on the ears instead of encircling them. This adversely affects the passive noise canceling performance but given the aforementioned lightness, this doesn’t directly impact the comfort. Extended usage can lead to some stuffiness as the faux leather isn’t breathable, and this is exacerbated as the over-enthusiastic clamping force really presses the earcups into the wearer’s skull. The comfort is good, but with a few adjustments, it could have been great.

Audio Performance

The overall sound profile is symptomatic of the budget class of headphones with an overzealous focus on the bass. It overpowers the rest of the soundscape and tends to give everything a muffled effect, which is very noticeable when listening to a song or movie scene with a lot of vocals, there’s just no definition. The mids and highs aren’t the worst from this price range. OneOdio markets these as suitable for DJing and they certainly have the volume to do so, but the noise isolation and definition are lacking for that particular use case.

In terms of PC gaming, this headset would not be a good option. The inline mic is far below par for VoIP and has quite severe connectivity issues which are detailed below. Given the lack of software available from OneOdio, and therefore inability to adjust EQ, the bass-focussed soundscape will do nothing for your gameplay experience.

Connectivity

This is where the A70s truly shine, with 3.5mm, 6.35mm, and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. For the $45 dollar price point this provides incredible versatility; the 6.35mm jack is particularly notable as it allows connection to amps without an adapter, a useful feature for the musicians out there. OneOdio also thoughtfully included a 3.5mm-6.35mm cable in addition to a 3.5mm cable with an inline mic, both cables are bog-standard but functional, the value for money proposition is very high here, especially if you need a pair of headphones for multiple use cases. The choice of Micro USB for charging instead of USB-Type C is a misstep as Type C has quicker charging capabilities, reversibility, durability and is standard in 2021.

The Bluetooth connection is rock-solid with no loss of signal or disconnection experienced during testing. The microphone is an unfortunate downside; we experienced spotty compatibility with PC, a very similar issue to the EKSA E900s, which are manufactured by OneOdio’s sister company. The A70s are advertised as compatible with PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, but can’t be recommended for use with consoles as the included cable is far too short for a practical, ergonomic gaming experience.

Final Verdict

The OneOdio A70 Fusion Headphones are a compelling product, with far more versatility in connection and potential use cases than almost anything else in the $45 price range. The inclusion of a 6.35mm headphone jack and cable is a conscientious offering and one that should be far more common amongst audio peripherals. The design is a nice departure from the exceedingly boring swathe of matte-black innocuous competitors. That said, the brittle build quality and very cheap materials do not inspire confidence in the longevity of this product, in addition to this, the problematic mic prevents a recommendation unless you care more about multiple connectivity options than sound quality.
