The Nvidia RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti have been announced at this year’s CES, and Nvidia has once again set the bar high for GPU performance. Powered by the revolutionary Blackwell architecture, the RTX 50 series is one of the most advanced graphics cards we have seen. All thanks to a riveting design centred around AI and neural rendering capabilities.
The RTX 4070 and 4070 Ti are the best value GPUs in the lineup (at least until the 5060 card releases), not just because they are the least harsh on your wallet. On January 6th, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, revealed that we could purchase these GPUs in February. However, the latest rumours indicate as early as February 19th, 2025. The 5080 and 5090 were put on sale recently (on January 30th) and sold out incredibly fast. Nvidia is pricing the 50 series very competitively at the low end, with one of the major talking points being that the RTX 5070 holds the power of the RTX 4090 for a fraction of the price.
Stock for the 5080 and 5090 was scarce on launch; will that be true for the 5070, too?
The RTX 5090 and 5080 launched on January 30th, with stock selling out within about 20 minutes in most of the UK. Will the 5070 fare the same? There apparently isn’t going to be a Founders Edition of the RTX 5070 Ti, meaning there’s one less card variant available to snap up, leaving you less of a chance to pick one up if you were interested.
If you are looking for a Founders Edition RTX 5070, you can do a few things to maximise your chances (apart from getting a bot, which we don’t condone). Don’t be alarmed if you don’t get one, however. We tried purchasing one for ourselves, and we watched helplessly as the stock for the 5080 FE sold out almost instantaneously.
Release date and pricing
According to Nvidia, the release date for the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti is “starting in February”, which we realise isn’t much to go off, but it’s what we have. After all, it is the shortest month of the year, so there’s not a long window. According to Nvidia, if you’re too impatient and have extra cash to splash, the RTX 5080 and 5090 will be available on January 30th.
Some of the latest rumours indicate that the RTX 5070 Ti will launch on February 20th, with no sign of the none-Ti variant. According to VideoCardz, the RTX 5070 Ti was initially planned to launch on February 14th, but it was pushed back a week due to the Chinese New Year, causing logistical challenges.
The RTX 5070 costs £539 ($549), and the 5070 Ti costs a little more at £729 ($749). These GPUs are incredibly competitively priced for the power they output compared to the previous generation, and the RTX 5070 alone boasts the same performance as the current flagship RTX 4090, with the 5070 Ti pushing the barrier beyond that into performance metrics we have not yet seen from a single GPU.
The GPUs are tailored to gamers and content creators who want to take their system to the next level without having to remortgage the house. Having said that, we’d be surprised to see stock last for more than 10 minutes before the scalpers swoop in to drive up the prices.
Specifications and architecture details
The RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti are built on the Blackwell architecture (as is the entire 50 series). However, there’s a significant focus on AI integration rather than the typical rasterisation performance improvements. Don’t get us wrong—there are improvements to the general hardware, but we didn’t get too much information regarding the specifics during CES. However, we did get a brief overview of the entire series on the AI front.
RTX Blackwell itself is a sight to behold. During the Nvidia keynote at CES, we were given a brief overview of its specifications and how they relate to the previous generation’s Ada architecture. Here’s a rundown of what Blackwell brings to the table:
- 4,000 AI TOPS (3x Ada)
- 380 RT TFLOPS (2x Ada)
- 125 Shader TFLOPS (1.5x Ada)
- 92 Billion Transistors
- G7 Memory
- 1.8 TB/s Memory Bandwidth (2x Ada)
- AI-Management Processor
If you want to know the full RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti specifications, you can check out TechPowerup’s page on the RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti. Note that not all of these specifications have been released by Nvidia, so many of them are still marked as rumours, but it gives you a general idea for now.
Performance relative to the previous generation
The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti represents a dramatic leap in performance compared to its predecessor, the RTX 4070 Ti, thanks to Nvidia’s advancements with the Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 technology. It features 16GB of GDDR7 memory and a substantial 78% increase in memory bandwidth, rising from 504 GB/sec to 896 GB/sec. This enhancement is pivotal for high-resolution gaming and intensive ray tracing workloads, providing smoother data throughput.
In terms of performance, the RTX 5070 Ti doubles the frame rates of the RTX 4070 Ti in modern titles such as Alan Wake 2, Black Myth: Wukong, and Cyberpunk 2077. When tested at 2560×1440 resolution with maxed-out settings and full ray tracing enabled, it delivers a seamless gaming experience. This generational uplift positions the 5070 Ti as a leading choice for enthusiasts who demand high-resolution performance. With a starting price of £729, it offers impressive power for gamers seeking cutting-edge technology at a premium but competitive price point.
The RTX 5070 delivers a substantial generational upgrade over the RTX 4070, offering improved specifications and significant performance gains. Equipped with 12GB of GDDR7 memory, it increases memory bandwidth by 33%, rising from 504 GB/sec to 672 GB/sec. This boost ensures faster and more efficient data handling, making it ideal for the demands of modern games.
In performance terms, the RTX 5070 is twice as fast as the RTX 4070 when paired with the Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4. Titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 perform exceptionally well at 1440p with all settings maxed out, including full ray tracing. This enhanced capability allows the RTX 5070 to deliver smooth gameplay in even the most demanding scenarios, showcasing its value as a future-proof choice for mid-range gaming. At a starting price of £539, it strikes an excellent balance between power and affordability, catering to gamers looking for a powerful upgrade without breaking the bank.
Final Word
The Nvidia RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti are shaping to be game-changing GPUs, setting a new standard for performance and value in the mid-range segment. Both cards deliver massive generational upgrades over the RTX 40 series with their innovative Blackwell architecture and AI-driven enhancements. The RTX 5070 Ti offers flagship-level power at a premium price, while the RTX 5070 provides a more affordable option without compromising performance, rivalling even the RTX 4090.
Priced competitively at £539 and £729, these GPUs redefine what gamers and creators can expect for their money. With up to double the performance of their predecessors, support for DLSS 4, and exceptional efficiency, they’re a future-proof investment for high-resolution gaming and demanding workloads. However, with stock likely to fly off the shelves, securing one might be as challenging as conquering the latest AAA titles.
