Of course, there were some anomalies – such as Cyberpunk 2077 , which only netted 44 FPS @ 4K on average. Take that benchmark with a pinch of salt, though, as the game was still in its early stages and hadn’t received the patches or driver updates that we have today. Regarding ray tracing, the 7900 XTX OC was capable of running many titles with RT enabled @ 4K – with games like The Finals and Shadow of The Tomb Raider pushing 70-80 FPS, respectively.

All being said, the 7900 XTX OC model is easily one of the best GPUs on the market and, due to its excellent price-to-performance MSRP, is a fine choice for any 7800X3D build.

Things to consider when buying a GPU for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D

There are a few things to take into consideration when selecting a GPU for the 7800X3D, we’ve outlined a few of the most important ones below:

Future-proofing your build

While AM5 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, the 7800X3D is about to be superseded by the 9800X3D. If you would like to upgrade to this processor in the future, the good news is it remains on the same AM5 platform, so you don’t have to upgrade your motherboard unless you want to.

You might want to consider slightly overshooting GPU compatibility with the 7800X3D to make your GPU more compatible with the 9800X3D – and future hardware. So, instead of opting for the middle-of-the-pack, you might want to pick up something with a little more rendering power.

Ray tracing performance

While ray tracing performance has improved substantially on AMD’s 7000 series against the previous generation, it still pales compared to what Nvidia GPUs are capable of. If ray tracing matters, you might be better off shelling out slightly more for an Nvidia GPU – there is no current comparison.

Will the Ryzen 7 7800X3D bottleneck my GPU?

Being one of the best gaming CPUs on the market, the answer to that is fairly simple – not really. Even if you’re running an RTX 4090, the chances of it being bottlenecked by the 7800X3D in gaming scenarios is extremely slim. In fact, regardless of whether the 7800X3D will bottleneck your GPU or not, it’s still the fastest CPU on the market – meaning it has the least chance of bottlenecking you when comparing it to market alternatives.
