PC players are in for a raw deal when 2K Games’ NBA 2K21 launches later this year. While PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X players will benefit from the next-gen version of the game, PC players will have to content themselves with the current-gen version landing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and Nintendo Switch.

A quick visit to the freshly-published NBA 2K21 pre-order page reveals as much. The news is sure to irk PC players, who’ll argue that despite the next-gen consoles having some hardware advantages, PCs can, by and large, handle many of the added features packaged into the next-gen version.

News that NBA 2K21 is shafting PC players echoes a similar situation with the latest entry in EA’s long-running football franchise, FIFA 21. The PC version of FIFA 21 is the current-gen and not the next-gen version.

There is a slight consolation to all this – the PC version will cost less than the next-gen version – $ 59.99 as opposed to $69.99. The $69.99 price tag is interesting as it may be the first official sign that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will come with a premium and cost more than what we’ve grown accustomed to this current-gen. Or it could just be an attempt to get the most money out of console early adopters.

Speculating on 2K Games decision, there’s an argument that by pushing out the current-gen version of PC, 2K Games is likely to reach a broader portion of players given the vast range of PC specifications among the player base. Indeed, not everyone is lucky enough to own a top of the line PC rig capable of handling the jump to the next-gen.

2K Games also revealed the final cover athlete for NBA 2K21 as Kobe Bryant. The former Lakers star who passed away earlier this year will feature on the Mamba Forever Edition, which replaces the previous Legend Edition nomenclature to honor Bryant. The cover differs depending on the version, with Bryant sporting his number 8 jersey on the current-generation version, and number 24 on the next-gen version.

Aside from the Mamba Forever Edition, the Standard Edition features Damian Lizard of the Portland Trailer Blazers on the current-gen cover and New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson on the next-gen cover.

  1. So I got a $2500 PC to play ps4 games on? CMON

  2. this is horse shit, becasue unless we all forgot when the ps3 and xbox 360 came out they raised prices on games from 49.99 to 59.99, add that to the micro-transactions and season pass’s how much does a game end up costing now adays, shame

  3. wtf? Most of PC players have components inside their rigs that are at least comparable to , if not better than what ps5/xbox x have to offer…That’s just an excuse, they are slacking again like they did with 2k14 and i won’t settle with fresh coat of paint to the last years game ,i’ll wait it out for 2k22 to get that next gen experience(if it’s worth it)

    • Most PC players do not have rigs comparable to a damn PS5 most people play on weak computers and are constantly asking can they run some game. This is a fact.

      • That’s not true at all in todays day and age.

        • two words “steam survey” check it out it facts

          • Stupid ASF your comment, the steam rigs according to the steam survey , the mode is A gtx 1060 Thats WAY better than a ps4 and close to a Next gen console.

      • Well, I have an rx 580 and play at 1080p, I’m pretty sure my rig can handle the next generation version at 1080p, def not 4k, but not playing at 4k, soooo…

      • Maybe for you, but I would bet at least 51% (in reality it is probably a little higher) have comparable to and if not better components than PS5 and Xbox SX. Not only that, but why should it matter? Lower the graphics if it does not run properly or do something else that console gamers cannot do – UPGRADE YOUR PC! Buy the correct components. I think it is complete and utter bullshit that 2k will not release nextgen on PC. So dumb.
