If you’re looking for a new GPU towards the top of the pack, then AMD’s RX 7900 GRE might just be the graphics card you’re after. It’s a more unique model of card from the release to the designs of it available and that’s what makes it just that bit more interesting.

You may have missed the RX 7900 GRE launch as it was an exclusive launch in China in July 2023. Named the Golden Rabbit Edition, it fell behind on the specs of the RX 7900 XT as it came at a time when only the 7900s and RX 7600 were part of the RDNA 3 lineup. So at the time, it provided a strong choice for a combination of value and performance at the higher level.

Although system integrators might have had access to the GPU, as we saw in Germany in August, the GPU does come out for DIY users wanting to buy it separately and not in a prebuilt gaming PC. Although AWD-IT has taken down the product page itself the card can still be found by search and may come back after a restock.

RX 7900 GRE coming to the US

After coming out in Italy and Germany as well in quality, now featuring in the UK, there is also talk of the graphics card coming out in the US. As Videocardz reports, Gigabyte has shown off a custom model for the GRE and not just the base reference model provided by AMD or XFX. They also write how the card is expected to be coming later this month (February) so might just be around when you’re looking for that upgrade.

But it would have to compete with the RX 7900 XT on price, as that has gotten plenty of price drops since its launch. There Videocardz suggests the card will have a lower MSRP as well since its launch, as that was $649, but now could come at $549 for a $100 discount. Which will sit $50 above the 7800 XT and $200 less than the 7900 XT’s newer price.

If you’ve not seen how the card performs, then you can check out TechSpot’s 7900 GRE review due to their access in Australia, they had a review in August. There we see it sit behind the 4070 Ti and RTX 4070, which would also be in a similar situation for the more recent Super cards as well.
