With an array of new mounts and abilities added to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom players are wondering if, much like in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you can tame a wolf as a combat companion.

Can you tame a wolf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

In Breath of the Wild, players were able to use their Wolf Link Amiibo to register their wolf who would companion them and fight with them, you were also able to tame a wolf pup with raw meat. Unfortunately, it seems that Nintendo has removed this feature in Tears of the Kingdom as when you scan the same Wolf Link Amiibo all that happens is a pile of raw meat appears before Link as well as receiving the Mirror of Twilight Paraglider Fabric.

So it seems the simple answer to How to tame wolf in Tears of the Kingdom is that you can’t. You can however fight them as they seem to be fierce enemies.

Tips for fighting wolves

Although the possibility to tame wolves still alludes us in the kingdom of Hyrule, we have some tips for fighting wolves in Tears of the Kingdom

If you kill one of the wolves, the rest will scatter.

Wolves let out a howl before they fight. If you hear it, look around to identify where every wolf in the pack is as they have a tendency to surround you as they attack.

Wolves drop the following materials when defeated:

  • Raw Prime Meat
  • Raw Gourmet Meat

It currently seems like there is only one Amiibo functionality that will generate any type of companion wolf or otherwise, and that is the Smash Brothers Link Amiibo that will generate Epona, Links’s trusted giant horse. Other compatible amiibos will also unlock amiibo rewards when used with the Nintendo Switch, we have another article here that has a full description of all the amiibo items you can receive so if you a Zelda fan and have a wide collection of Amiibos fear not, they are still very useful.

It is a shame that the Wolf Link Amiibo does not unlock the wolf companion like in Breath of the Wild, but there are hours and vast new regions of this Zelda game to explore so the chance that we may run into a wolf pup to tame as our companion may still be out there.
