iPad 2019 vs iPad 2022

The main advantages of the 10th gen iPad 2022 vs 9th gen iPad 2019 are as follows: the larger screen, USB-C support, a quicker A14 CPU, improved speakers, and last but not least, a more sensible landscape camera placement.

You get an additional 0.7 inches of diagonal screen space with the new iPad 2022, which doesn’t sound a huge amount but it’s a noticeable improvement. The new camera placement makes a lot more sense for videocalls if you’re using the tablet in conjunction with a keyboard, as many of us do, and is one advantage the standard iPad has over the Pro version even.

The main downsides however, are the price vs the iPad 2019 (unsurprisingly) that the USB-C support (which is very welcome) means that iPad 2022 is not compatible with the Apple Pencil 2, and you instead have to use the first-gen Apple Pencil with a USB-C dongle.

Is the 9th generation iPad still good?

The fact that the 9th generation iPad is compatible with the Apple Pencil 2, whereas the latest gen is not, makes it much more appealing to creatives that draw and illustrate.

The 9th gen iPad’s cheaper price is also something that works heavily in its favor (starting at $329 vs $449 for the 10th gen). Plus there are already offers live on this product on our Black Friday iPad deals page, which offer you even more money off.

Finally, the 9th gen iPad also comes with a wider array of cases and case compatibility, which isn’t a major advantage but may help swing it for you.

Should you buy the 10th generation iPad?

The new 10th gen iPad is worth it if you want the latest, most powerful iPad with the largest screen possible, improved speakers, and would make good use of the new USB-C support, however if you’re an artist you may want to consider the 9th gen instead for its Apple Pencil 2 support.
