LG Launches 4K 144 Hz Ultra Gear 27GN950 Gaming Monitor

LG has officially launched the new Ultra Gear 27GN950 monitor, touting it as the “world’s first 4K IPS 1-millisecond gray-to-gray gaming monitor.”

The 27″ Ultra Gear 27GN950 follows in the footsteps of last year’s Ultra Gear 27GL850 and aims to offer users an immersive gaming experience per the press release published today by the South Korean company. The gaming monitor was first announced at CES 2020 earlier this year.

LG says the new Ultra Gear 27GN950 monitor is an ideal solution for live streamers beaming their gaming sessions to viewers worldwide thanks to its expansive 4K resolution. It will also suit creative professionals tinkering high-resolution files and jumping between multiple applications on the fly. According to the press release, the monitor achieves astonishing speed without comprising picture quality.

It features a Nano IPS, 27″ screen size, 4K UHD 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, 400 nits brightness, 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, 1.07B color depth, 144 Hz refresh rate, 16:9 aspect ratio, 178 degrees viewing angle, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 1ms GtG response time. The Ultra Gear 27GN950 monitor also features adjustable height, pivot, and tilt to find that perfect viewing position. The monitor measures 23.9″ x 22.5″ x 11.5″ when fully extended and tallies up to 12.6 lbs.

Connectivity-wise, the Ultra Gear 27GN950 boasts two HDMI, one DisplayPort, USB 3.0, and headphone out with Maxx Audio. A new red-accented “wings’ emblem adorns the back of the monitor ”designed specifically with victory in gaming in mind.”

LG is also throwing in VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification as well as NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility for what it calls outstanding “color accuracy, dynamic contrast, high luminance, and a wide color gamut” alongside less screen tearing and minimal stutter.

As vice president and general manager of GeForce OEM at NVIDIA, Kaustubh Sanghani explains:

“We are excited to bring NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible support to LG’s most advanced UltraGear model yet. Gamers will be blown away by the responsiveness and the lifelike visuals when playing the latest PC games that feature real-time ray-tracing powered by GeForce technology.”

LG senior vice president and head of the IT business unit, Jang Ik-hwan, also chimes in to say:

”Our latest gaming monitor delivers the unrivaled performance consumers have come to expect from LG UltraGear. UltraGear monitors will continue to push the boundaries of monitor technology, leveraging our advanced IPS 1ms GTG display technology to take gaming to even greater heights.”

LG says fans will start to see the Ultra Gear 27GN950 pop up via retailers in key markets in Europe, North America, Asia, and beyond today, but stopped short of stating when the monitor will be available. We’ve spotted a listing on Amazon Canada for the Ultra Gear 27GN950 priced at CDN$ 1,099.99 that notes availability from August 24th. The date may very well be a placeholder, although it may not be too far off the mark given LG’s announcement.

For those across the pond in the UK, Currys PC World has a listing for the Ultra Gear 27GN950 priced at £749.00. It currently states that the item is out of stock and pre-orders don’t appear to be live for the time being.
