MSI Unveils Ultra-Wide 30-Inch Optix MAG301CR Gaming Monitor

MSI has unveiled a brand new monitor dubbed the Optix MAG301CR aimed at the competitive gaming market that the company touts as reaching the peak of immersion.

The MSI Optix MAG301CR features a curved 30-inch WHFD VA panel for ultra-wide gaming with a max resolution of 2560 x 1080 resolution, 200 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time, and 21:9 ratio.

MSI says the wide panel is ideal for multitasking with multiple windows open ostensibly upping efficiency when it comes to gaming. The company also hints at the Optix MAG301CR’s capabilities when it comes to non-gaming activities such as photo and video editing, as well as general multimedia consumption.

It runs 98% of the DCI-p3 and 127% of the sRGB color gamuts and offers viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically. MSI has also thrown in a contrast ratio of 3000:1. The monitor is HDR-ready and has support for AMD FreeSync.

All this packaged together produces ‘excellent contrast and image smoothness’ and a significant improvement over 16:9 panels, according to MSI.

Connectivity-wise, we are looking at one USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type B, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A, one DisplayPort 1.2a, two HDMI 2.0b, one stereo headphone jack, and one USB Type C doubling as an additional DisplayPort.

MSI has also thrown in some generous stand adjustment features with a 5 to 20-degree tilt, 30-degree swivel, 90-degree pivot, and 0 to 130 mm height.

Added extras include MSI familiar Night Vision black tuner tech that computes and amplifies darks to avoid overexposure. The Optix MAG301CR is also compatible with MSI’s Gaming OSD App to customize display settings and assign hotkeys for on the fly adjustments.

As it stands, MSI has stopped short of providing any details about pricing, but given the size and features, we imagine this one won’t come cheap.
