We’ve had a series of motherboard-related leaks over the past few days about ASUS and MSI. Now it looks like AMD is throwing their hat into the ring with their B550 motherboards.
According to Wccftech, the B550 series actually has a launch date which gives this news a bit more weight. The motherboards look like they will release on June 16th and there is likely going to be a firm announcement on May 21st.
It’s been almost a year since we started waiting for these new mid-range Ryzen motherboards. Since then, AMD’s X570 motherboards have firmly replaced the X470 motherboards which have been a kind of placeholder in the mid-range motherboard market for a while.
PCIe 4.0 Support Coming To AMD’s Mid-Range Motherboards
Previously, some motherboards supported PCIe Gen 4.0 but this feature was essentially disabled since it caused so many problems. That makes the B550 announcement more important because this will be AMD’s first mid-range motherboard with native PCIe 4.0 support.
Interestingly, when compared to the other leaks, particularly MSI’s new three-series of motherboards, AMD’s offering stands out for the PCIe 4.0 alone. Many of the other recently leaked motherboards appear to only support up to PCIe 3.0.
However, with all these leaks it’s important to take them with a pinch of salt. What’s leaked today doesn’t necessarily show the full picture and we will have to wait until we see an official announcement from AMD before we get too excited.
We’re hoping to get more information on May 21st, the rumored announcement day, but until then we will keep an eye out for any more details. We will be bringing you any updates on all the recently leaked motherboards from AMD, MSI, and ASUS here.
