If you’re looking for a new game to play on PC, then Epic Games is a good alternative to Steam. Especially now that they are giving away The Outer Worlds for free, for a limited time. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this either, previously handing out free copies back in December.

Better yet, they are giving away the Spacer’s Choice Edition, which is a graphics remaster with added content and a higher level cap. The Outer Worlds is a single-player RPG, developed by Obsidian Entertainment – perhaps most famous for their work on the highly-regarded Fallout: New Vegas.

The Outer Worlds is free on Epic Games for a limited time

So, now you can get The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition for completely free on the Epic Games store, it’s a good way to expand your library. This ‘sale’ will be running up until April 11th, so you have just under a week (at the time of writing) to claim it. Once added to your library, you get to keep it for good – this isn’t a free week kind of deal like we’ve recently seen with The Elder Scrolls Online.

Looking at the requirements for the Spacer’s Choice Edition, we can see that it asks for a minimum of a GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB) or Radeon RX 590, while recommending a GTX 1080 Ti or RTX 2070. Alternatively, the RX 6700 XT is a good card for the job on the AMD side of things. As for processing power, a relatively recent Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 5 CPU is suitable.

Has it ever been free on Steam?

No, by looking at the price history using the ever-handy website SteamDB, we can see that The Outer Worlds has not yet dropped lower than $17.99 – back during the Steam Summer Sale 2022. Since then, the discount price has consistently been $19.79, so it will likely be the same during the next Steam sale, which is never too far away.
