IPS vs OLED vs AMOLED laptop deals

IPS is the standard panel type that the vast majority of laptops use. There’s a great deal of variation in the quality and specs of IPS displays (color, contrast, refresh rate, response time etc.), but overall they’re known for wide viewing angles.

OLED displays (i.e. Organic Light Emitting Diode displays) are made with a completely different panel technology, one which uses an organic layer that allows for much greater contrast and deeper blacks, though they can be susceptible to image burn-in. Viewing angles are not as wide as those on IPS displays, but OLED laptops tend to cost more due to their superior image quality overall. Response times on OLED displays tend to be very quick as well.

AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) screens are essentially a sub-type of OLED displays, which have an additional TFT (Thin Film Transistor) layer that acts as an electrical switch for each pixel in the displays, allowing for greater control and flexibility. AMOLED is typically the version of the technology you will see most commonly in smaller screen devices. This is because the TFT layer allows for greater variance in screen size compared to regular OLED displays.
