How We Choose

It requires hours of product research, performance benchmarking, and reviewing user feedback to get anywhere close to a definitive conclusion on what’s actually right.

If you aren’t tech-savvy and struggle to put the time aside to go through the above requirements, you may end up purchasing a keyboard and mouse combo that simply aren’t right for you.

Fear not though, friends! Here at WePC, we like to take the stress of research away, and transform the whole process into an easy-to-follow, complete buyers guide. That’s right, our team of PC enthusiasts has done all the hard work for you!

How We Test

Testing the products we recommend is a huge part of the overall selection process in our best of guides. It’s a way to make sure what we recommend is, without a doubt, the best option in its specific category.

To be sure a product is “the best,” it must showcase excellent performance in our tests, and display better qualities and features than the competition it faces.

Most of the products we recommend here at WePC have gone through a strict testing process that involves everything from the price and performance, to build quality, efficiency, and aesthetics. Each product is pushed to the limit to see how it performs under intense stress to make sure it warrants our coveted top spot.

Doing this enables us to provide you with the most accurate review of how the product performs and, ultimately, whether it’s worth your hard-earned cash.

Best Keyboard For XBOX One - Things To Consider

With every peripheral purchase – whether its a mouse, keyboard, or headset – choosing the right one for your specific needs can be a difficult process – especially if you aren’t familiar with the technology.

For that reason, we’ve decided to lay out the most important factors to consider when looking to purchase a keyboard for XBOX One. Not only will these ensure that your next purchase is right for you, but they might also save you a few dollars as well.

With that in mind, let’s get into it!

Switches

As a gamer, one of the first things you should consider before jumping into a keyboard purchase is the switches. Switches play a major role in a keyboard’s performance, with different switch types offering a variety of responses, accuracy, and audio outputs.

The keyboard’s switch is found underneath the keycap and is usually one of two types; mechanical or rubber dome membrane. The switch is the mechanism that sends a signal from the keyboard to the PC, letting the latter know which key has been pressed. That being said, you can start to understand why gamers look for the highest quality switches when they purchase a keyboard.

The difference between membrane and mechanical is night and day. Membrane offers a quieter, less responsive experience that is great for office typers on a budget. On the flip side, mechanical switches offer a much more tactile feel, greater audible output, and a whole plethora of other features too.

See the below image for a more detailed description of the two switch technologies:

Mechanical Switch vs Membrane Switch scaled 1

If you’re a gamer who plays competitive titles, you should really be looking for a mechanical keyboard that fits into your budget. It will offer much better gaming performance, alongside a ton of other features too.

Form factor

Form factor is pretty much what it says on the tin. Having said that, it’s still an extremely important factor to consider when purchasing a keyboard for XBOX  One.

When we talk about a keyboard’s form factor, we are referencing its physical size. So, as you can imagine, a smaller form keyboard won’t have nearly as many keys as say, an extended keyboard – you dig?

Below are the main form factors found in today’s market:

  • Extended Full-size
  • Full-size
  • TKL (TenKeyLess)
  • 60% size

The most well-known and generic form factor is full-size, offering a full set of keys including number pad and function keys across the top. More often than not, full-size keyboards also come equipped with media keys and sometimes macro keys.

TKL keyboards are next and offer all the functionality of a full-size keyboard without the number pad.

Moving to 60% and you start to see some major differences appear. We lose the number pad and most of the function keys at this form factor. While that might not be a huge issue for a lot of gamers, it certainly won’t be ideal for everyone’s needs.

Lastly, we have extended full-size. This the largest keyboard form factor, usually offering a whole bunch of additional keys for certain game genres such as MOBA and MMO titles. While this form factor does offer the most versatility, it is often deemed far too large for most people’s needs.

Extra Features

Extra features are usually what separate the top tier keyboards – especially two that are so evenly priced. When comparing two keyboards of similar prices, you’ll usually find the build quality and functionality are pretty similar.

Having said that, to try and secure your cash, keyboard manufacturers will install any number of additional features in their boards, features which include; anti-ghosting and Key rollover, media keys, macro keys, on-board profiles, and RGB. The list actually goes on, but you get what I mean.

Finding the perfect balance between features and physical performance is the key to finding a keyboard that best suits your needs.

Build Quality

Lastly, we have build quality. Build quality is a hugely important thing to consider in any peripheral purchase, mainly because no one wants to be splashing out $100 a new keyboard every six months. Unfortunately, that could very well be your reality if you get suckered into buying a keyboard with poor build quality.

Thankfully, every keyboard we’ve selected has been chosen based on a number of different factors – one of which is build quality.

  • Expensive

Our number one pick when it comes to the best keyboard for XBOX One falls in the shape of Corsair’s hugely impressive K95 Platinum XT – a keyboard that offers all the bells and whistles you could want to take your game to the next level.

From a design point of view, this might be one of the best looking boards I’ve seen in a while. Yes, it might be similar (if not the same) to the K95 Platinum – its predecessor – but why fix something that isn’t broken? The backplate is constructed using anodized aluminum that looks fantastic and feels extremely robust. The board has a dark color theme that works extremely well with the RGB lighting which runs through the entirety of the board – including all the keys, the logo, and a light strip at the top. With well designed macro keys and media keys, this thing not only looks the part but performs to a great standard too. It is one of the largest keyboards we’ve tested, sitting at a 465mm in length, so just make sure you have the desk real-estate if you do plan on choosing this board as your next upgrade.

With design aside, it’s safe to say this keyboard’s biggest selling point has to be its performance. It just feels fantastic. Corsair allows users to choose between Cherry MX Blue and Speed switches for this board, allowing you to customize the feel and audio output this board creates. That being said, keypresses felt extremely crips and responsive – albeit on the loud side – making gaming feel much more immersive. Playing games like CS:GO and Rainbow Six Siege requires the highest levels and accuracy and precision, so a keyboard like this could seriously put you at an advantage over your competition.

Corsair has equipped with K95 Platinum XT with double-shot keycaps which are a huge improvement from that of its predecessor. Furthermore, users can now save up to five profiles to the board itself thanks to an 8MB storage capacity. With fully customizable RGB, macro keys, dedicated media keys, a USB 2.0 Type-A passthrough, and headset cabling routing underneath its shell, this keyboard really does offer it all!

If you have the cash to splash out on something premium, you will not be disappointed with the Corsair K95 Platinum XT.

  • Anti-ghosting
  • Responsive switches
CONS
  • No macro keys
  • Only red backlight

HyperX knows exactly what they’re doing when it comes to high-performance, value for money peripherals. This, their Alloy FPS Pro is one of their flagship keyboards, offering everything you need to take your gaming to the next level.

The HyperX Alloy FPS Pro is a sleek and stylish keyboard that could absolutely lend itself to an office-style environment. Its design is fairly basic but still manages to look polished and refined. This is a TKL board which means users will not be treated to a number pad. Having said that, the small form factor design does make it much easier for individuals to find space on a desk or couch. With simple red backlighting, the HyperX Alloy FPS Pro does still offer a gaming aesthetic that is sure to please most people’s needs.

As mentioned above, this keyboard offers everything you need to take your game to the next level. It comes equipped with HyperX Red or HyperX Blue switches, that are similar to the Cherry MX Red and Cherry MX Blue equivalent, HyperX Aqua also gives a quieter option that is the equivalent of Cherry MX Browns. The HyperX Red switches that come as standard are fantastic for gaming and bring rapid response and accuracy to the table. The Alloy FPS also comes with extra features that include anti-ghost and full NKRO (a feature that removes any possible chance of ghosting), to ensure your gaming experience isn’t interrupted by an unregistered keypress.

The construction of this board feels very sturdy and well-built, something we don’t always expect when reviewing HyperX peripherals. It comes with a steel frame that offered little to no bend when put through our strict durability tests. It also comes equipped with a removable USB connection at the rear, making travel a much more user-friendly experience.

Overall, what you have here is an extremely good gaming keyboard. It might not offer every feature under the sun, but what it does offer is a fantastic gaming performance. With a bunch of benefits geared towards competitive gaming, you will not be disappointed with this keyboard.

04
A cheaper keyboard with anti-ghost and N-key rollover
Razer Cynosa Chroma Gaming Keyboard
Razer Cynosa Chroma
Size Full-size (100%)
Switch Membrane Dome Switch
Backlight RGB
Wrist Rest N/A
PROS
  • Attractive design
  • Media hotkeys
  • Good value
  • Anti-ghost and key rollover
CONS
  • Membrane
  • Limited features
  • Plastic construction

Our budget pick comes in the shape of the Razer Cynosa Chroma gaming keyboard – a fan favorite thanks to its RGB and low price tag. However, this keyboard is much more than a cheap ticket to some quality RGB. Let’s take a look.

The most noticeable difference that separates this keyboard from its competition is the switch technology used. The Cynosa has been equipped with rubber dome membrane switches which, even though not the best for gaming, still offer up a pleasant experience none the less. The dome switches offer a much quieter, mushier feel that isn’t going to annoy work colleagues or family members anytime soon. That being said, they are less responsive and less tactile than their mechanical counterpart.

With that in mind, it still offers plenty of cool features such as vibrant RGB, a spill-resistant design, media hotkeys, and anti-ghosting tech too. The RGB is fully customisable inside the Razer Synapse software suite, with users having the option to change each individual key to their specific taste.

At this price tag, you’d probably expect the Cynosa to offer a less than desirable build quality. Fortunately, that isn’t the case here. The plastic used does have a slight bend to it, but nothing too worrying if truth be told. Overall, it feels pretty damn sturdy, especially for a board that retails at around $40.

All being said, if you’re on a budget and simply want to give the PC style set up a go, I couldn’t think of a better option to do so.

A premium keyboard and mouse combo
Razer Turret Wireless Gaming Keyboard & Mouse Combo
Razer Turret Combo
Size TKL (TenKeyLess)
Switch Razer Mechanical Green Switches
Backlight RGB
Wrist Rest Included - non-detachable
PROS
  • Great ergonomic design on both the keyboard and mouse
  • Comes equipped with high-performance mechanical switches
  • XBOX One dedicated key
  • Anti-ghost and key rollover
  • Fully customizable RGB
CONS
  • Quite expensive

Last but not least, is the Razer Turret wireless gaming keyboard and mouse combo. We’ve opted for a keyboard and mouse combo for the simple reason that, some of you probably need both. Anyway, that being said, we feel the Razer Turret is a great choice for any gamer looking to get a taste of the PC style setup.

Razer has paired up with Microsoft on this project to bring gamers the first wireless keyboard and mouse combo that work alongside the XBOX One console. Razer has implemented industry-leading technologies to give gamers the best possible chance of success when making the big switch – all very exciting stuff.

The design of the keyboard is fairly routine for Razer, bringing their textbook black color theme riddled with RGB to the table. The keyboard makes use of Razer’s proprietary mechanical Green switches that have been custom-designed for responsiveness and accuracy.

Other features of the keyboard include an ergonomic wrist-rest, mid-height keycaps for faster response, 10-key rollover, dedicated Xbox button to access the dashboard, and over 40 hours of battery life – not including a bunch of further features which are fairly standard.

The Razer Turret mouse is equally as impressive as its keyboard companion. It has a very similar shape to that of the Razer Deathadder, a fan favorite and one of the best selling mice of all time. The mouse comes equipped with a  16,000 DPI, 450 IPS, 7 bindable mechanical mouse switches, and a tried-and-tested shape that is sure to suit most people’s needs. The mouse also offers up to 50 hours of battery life and offers fantastic performance in and out of game.

Overall, from a performance standpoint, the Razer Turret is a very efficient combo to say the least. That being said, it is on the expensive side, setting users back over $200. If you’re in the market for high-end peripherals, this is a great combo that should tick a lot of the right boxes.

The 5 Best Keyboards For XBOX One frequently asked questions

Can you use a keyboard on Xbox one?

By default, all Xbox One gaming systems are designed to be used with an Xbox One controller. However, even though that might be the case, there are some games that are better suited to be played using a keyboard and matching mouse. Luckily, all Xbox One gaming systems are also suitable to be used with a keyboard and mouse, although, not all Xbox One games are suitable to be used with a keyboard.

Even though some Xbox One games are designed by the game makers to offer players mouse and keyboard functionality, the vast majority of Xbox One games are unfortunately not designed for use with a keyboard and a mouse. In addition to this, there are even many different Xbox One games that will actually ban players from playing their game if their systems detect that a mouse and keyboard are being used in multiplayer games, such as Call of Duty. The main reason for this is that keyboards and mice can offer an unfair advantage in multiplayer mode games, although like we have said, this is not always the case for some games.

Therefore, prior to setting up your keyboard and mouse, we recommend that you check whether or not the game you are planning to play offers keyboard and mouse compatibility, as well as whether or not it is actually allowed.

How can I use the keyboard and mouse on Xbox One without an adapter?

If you would like to swap out your Xbox One controller for a keyboard, then there are a variety of ways that you can go about doing this. The first method is extremely simple, and will only require you to merely select the keyboard and matching mouse that you would like to use, and then proceed to plug your keyboard and mouse into the console by using the USB ports located on the Xbox One gaming console.

Unfortunately, if you would like to use a Bluetooth gaming mouse and keyboard, then there will be no way for you to get around connecting the two to your Xbox One gaming console without using an adapter to connect them all together.

Alternatively, if you don’t have a lot of USB ports left available on your Xbox One, then we recommend purchasing a keyboard that comes with USB ports already installed, as you will then be able to connect your mouse via the keyboard, which will save you from having to use two USB ports in your Xbox One gaming console.

What keyboard will work on Xbox One?

If you’d like to use a keyboard for your Xbox One, then the good news is that just about any keyboard will be compatible with it! Your Xbox One comes with a few USB ports built into its console, and you can use these ports to connect your keyboard and mouse, or alternatively use one of them to connect a Bluetooth adapter.

However, you will need to make sure that you have enough USB ports to be able to accommodate your keyboard and mouse to connect the two, otherwise, we recommend opting for a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, which will only require an adapter to connect the two to the Xbox. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend that you double-check prior to purchasing that your chosen keyboard and mouse set is compatible with your Xbox One.

Do all Razer keyboards work on Xbox One?

Even though Razer keyboards are specially designed gaming keyboards ideal for multiplayer gaming and more, only the Razer Turret is the only Razer keyboard that is listed as being an officially licensed Xbox One keyboard and mouse set.

So much so, that the Razer Turret features a user-friendly design that is suitable to be played with via the lap, and comes with a dedicated Xbox button, Xbox Dynamic Lighting support, as well as mechanical keys that will make playing your favorite games easy and immersive.

Like we said above, seeing as all of Razer’s keyboards are designed for gaming, you could technically use the other ones in place of an Xbox One controller, although you won’t have the added Xbox One-specific perks that the Razer Turret offers.

Is it worth playing keyboard and mouse on Xbox One?

Whether or not playing games on your Xbox One with a keyboard and mouse will be of any benefit to you will ultimately come down to your personal preferences, as well as what type of game it is that you’re playing. Generally speaking, many gamers who opt to use a keyboard and mouse over a traditional-style controller come down to the ability to enjoy faster reaction times and carry out complex commands, especially from keyboards that come with mechanical switches.

Nevertheless, even though there are plenty of benefits to using a keyboard (especially in multiplayer games) it is important to keep in mind that there are a vast majority of Xbox One games that do not allow you to play with a keyboard and will issue bans if their systems detect you using one, and an even bigger portion of Xbox One games are simply created without keyboard functionality.

This is something to keep in mind prior to purchasing a keyboard and mouse for your Xbox One, especially if you find that you’re unable to actually use it.

Do SteelSeries keyboards work on Xbox One?

Yes, SteelSeries has a huge variety of gaming keyboards to choose from that offer compatibility with Xbox One gaming consoles! These keyboards are primarily designed to be used with Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, and come with a vast variety of mechanical switch types that can be customized to suit your playing style and comfortability preferences. If you need a recommendation, we recommend checking out this one – it’s a great all-rounder!

How do I control my Xbox with the keyboard?

The process of setting up your keyboard and then controlling your Xbox with it is super straightforward. All you will need to do is simply plug in your compatible keyboard by either plugging it into a USB port or using a Bluetooth adapter, and then connect the mouse via the same method. Then, scroll over to Device & Settings, where you will be able to switch the control settings over to your mouse and keyboard. It’s as easy as that!
