If you’re starting to grow tired of getting wrapped up in your headphone wire or damaging it under the wheels of your chair, why not look at picking up a quality wireless headset instead?

Being able to relax with a game without worrying about dangling wires is quite the luxury once you experience it. A good wireless headset will help immerse you in your games and you’ll soon forget you’re even wearing it.

Wireless headset technology has come a long way in the last few years. Batteries now last longer than ever, dropouts are few and far between and the difference in sound quality is almost unnoticeable compared to wired headphones.

Why Buy A Wireless Headset?

There are many products out there that help to increase the amount of immersion you’ll get from playing games. If you don’t quite have the budget to invest in the ultimate immersion peripheral – a VR headset, focusing on upping your audio setup is a great place to start.

Wireless headsets offer much more than just reducing cable tangles though. These headsets have great audio quality, are comfortable to wear for long periods of time, and can even help you improve your gameplay. If you are a bit of an audiophile you might want to pick up a set of headphones rather than a headset, but barring the addition of a microphone, these are still pretty similar.

Higher-end headsets will also have a couple more features that make them stand out. For example, if you plan on using these headphones on your commute or even a flight, noise-canceling software starts to become a must-have feature.

Where Can You Buy A Wireless Headset?

Wireless headsets can be found almost anywhere these days. You’ll want to make sure you pick up a decent one though. Some of the cheaper options can be plagued with problems that will ruin a gaming session rather than make it immersive.

If you take a look at sites such as Amazon, Overclockers, or Ebuyer you’ll be able to browse through hundreds of different wireless headsets. These sites will not only show you the key features but they’ll allow you to compare specifications between models and even read customer reviews.

Be on the lookout for well-renowned manufacturers such as SteelSeries, Corsair, Razer, Logitech, and Astro. These companies have been making quality headsets for a while now and are definitely brands that you can put your trust into.

Which Wireless Headset Is Best for You?

Sennheiser GSP 670

Tech Specs

  • Frequency Response – 10 Hz – 23 kHz
  • Battery Life – Up to 20 hours
  • Weight – 398 g

Sennheiser is world-renowned for being one of the leading manufacturers of headphones and earphones. It goes without saying that if you’re looking for a headset that offers a great level of sound quality, go with Sennheiser. Of course, there is a large price-tag to go along with these headphones. If you’re looking for something a little cheaper, we have listed a couple of great options below as well.

The Sennheiser GSP 670s are quite the standout headset. An all-black design is made interesting with plenty of angles, a large swivel microphone, and a couple of well-placed controls. However, the microphone isn’t detachable which might make this headset stick out on your morning commute.

The suede-like material on the ear cups makes for a comfortable listening experience and although this headset is quite large, it’s comfortable over long periods of time.

This headset also has a pretty impressive listed battery life, even a small daily charge will likely stop this headset from ever cutting out on you. Some users have reported that the bundled software can be a little tricky to use. However, it allows you to reprogram a button on your headset as well as play around with surround sound and EQ presets.

SteelSeries Arctis 7

Tech Specs

  • Frequency Response – 20 Hz – 20 kHz
  • Battery Life – Up to 24 hours
  • Weight – 280 g

While not as expensive as the Sennheiser headset, the SteelSeries Arctis 7 doesn’t sacrifice much considering its price tag. Sound quality is still great on the Arctis 7 and these can definitely be used to enjoy your favorite tracks. However, if you’re a bit of an audiophile, you might be a bit disappointed, but this is still a gaming headset after all.

If you’re looking for something that won’t be desperate for a charge midway through your gaming session, the Arctis 7 boasts an impressive 24 hours of battery life. While your mileage may vary, you can definitely expect this headset to last through the day.

We could easily see these headphones being used out and about. The white and black design and retractable microphone helps not to draw any attention to the fact this headset is primarily for gaming.

The DTS 7.1 surround sound is a great way to get the most out of your games. You’ll be able to pick up more details when playing and also have the option to play with a whole host of equalization options. With the SteelSeries Engine 3 software, you can also create profiles and link them to individual games.

Turtle Beach Stealth 450

Tech Specs

  • Frequency Response – 20 Hz – 20 kHz
  • Battery Life – Up to 15 hours
  • Weight – 246 g

You may already be familiar with Turtle Beach from their console related products but you’ll be happy to know they have a number of great options for the PC too. The Turtle Beach Stealth 450 is a great option for those who are shopping on a budget and it has a couple of great features for the price.

This headset doesn’t overdo it in the looks department either. With a matt black design and red and glossy black highlights, this is one of the more stylish headsets out there. The microphone is sturdy and tends to stay where you place it, it is non-retractable, however, which may be an issue for some.

For the price you’ll pay, the sound quality is quite impressive. The 7.1 surround sound provided via DTS Headphone: X works great – especially for those who like to play battle-royale or FPS games. The 15-hour battery life will be long enough for most gaming sessions and is pretty impressive considering the already low price.

There are also a couple of great features on this headset that are worth noting. The wheels to control the audio and microphone volume levels are well placed and easy to use in a pinch. You can use the preset button to easily cycle through the default listening modes which saves you from having to dive into any software to accomplish this.

Corsair HS70

Tech Specs

  • Frequency Response – 20 Hz – 20 kHz
  • Battery Life – Up to 16 hours
  • Weight – 330 g

Another great listing on the budget side of things is the Corsair HS70 headset. It seems that Corsair hasn’t had to cut many corners in order to bring us this excellent little headset. The sturdy building materials and impressive sound articulation are enough to make you wonder if this headset was mispriced!

The simple design on this headset will also appeal to many users out there. There are no fancy colors, sharp angles, or flashing lights that you’ll never see. This is simply a classic-looking, comfortable headset to wear. The headset also has a fully detachable microphone which is great if you’re planning to use it out and about.

The 16-hour battery life may be a bit of a drawback for some, but for the price of this headset, we can’t really complain. For most people, this battery life will be perfectly fine even for long gaming sessions.

The 7.1 surround sound also isn’t the best implementation we’ve seen on our list of headsets today but again, this is probably to be expected for the price point and most users may not even notice. In our full review of this headset, we did notice some hissing sounds at full volume which could be a problem for those who love to listen to loud music and movies.

Things To Consider

Price Range

When it comes to wireless headsets, you may end up having to pay a bit more for the wireless functionality. However, with more and more models coming out at various pricing levels it’s easier than ever to find something that fits into your price range nowadays.

If you’re looking to save money on a wireless headset, be warned that you may have to sacrifice other things such as sound quality or extra features. Wireless headsets at the high-end range will set you back around $200-300 as the extra features and better sound quality will drive the price up.

Some of these features include RGB lighting and noise-canceling software. Also, a greater level of audio fidelity could be well worth it if you’re looking to make an investment in your gaming setup and plan on using these headphones to listen to music.

Sound Quality

Sound quality is one of the most important factors to consider when shopping around for a gaming headset.

Poor sound quality can make an otherwise great gaming session fall flat. Sound quality is important for call clarity and also for you to clearly hear everything that’s going around you within a game.

This is particularly important if you’re playing competitive games or first-person shooters where you need to pinpoint the sound accurately to react quickly enough. Surround sound is crucial to this which means plenty of headsets now come with it as standard. However, if you want impressive sound quality, you’ll have to pay a little bit more.

Another thing to think about is how else you’ll be using this headset. If you’re planning to use it for music and movies as well as gaming, then you’ll need to consider the type of sound stage they produce. Some headsets will be bass-heavy which is great for games, whereas others will be neutral and well balanced. Part of this is down to personal preference so you’ll want to test out a headset if at all possible.

Comfort

Comfort is another key thing to consider, especially if you will be embarking on long gaming sessions. The last thing you want is for your head to start hurting or for your ears to get uncomfortably hot. A good headset will pair cushioning with breathable material for the best level of comfort.

Another thing to look for is the weight of the headset. Ideally, you’ll get one which is relatively light so it’s comfortable to wear for long periods of time. If you can, it’s a good idea to try on headsets in a store to see which feels the best for you.

Features

The good thing about gaming headsets is that they often come with more features than your standard set of headphones. However, the number of features you get will largely depend on your budget.

For high-end headsets, you could see some flashy, gamer-friendly designs and color schemes as well as RGB lighting in some cases. You might even see noise-canceling or surround sound options as well as adjustable microphones.

If you’re looking at wireless headsets specifically, you no doubt already know how beneficial wireless technology can be. Getting tangled in wires all the time can be very frustrating. However, adding wireless technology onto your search for the perfect headset will mean your budget has to be a bit higher.

Not Quite Set on Wireless Headsets?

If you find that wireless headsets appear to be out of your price range, then there are plenty of alternatives. Most of the big names out there including Corsair, Razer, and Logitech all have a wide range of wired headsets to choose from, often catering to different budgets.

If you’re stuck on where to start, avoiding some of the big-name brands can be a good way to drive the price down. This may come at a tradeoff of features and build quality, however.

Our Verdict

Shopping around for a new wireless headset can be a great way to transform your gaming experience. A gaming headset alone is a great investment if you’ve never used one before.

We have tried to include a few different headsets today from different brands and across budgets to give you some variety. However, there are many more wireless gaming headsets out there to look at. If you can’t find one that suits you above, a quick Google search should bring up ones that may better suit your needs.
