Amazon Prime Membership

Prime Day is always a great opportunity to save big on a number of products across tech, gaming, and lifestyle but there is one catch – you have to be an Amazon Prime member to join in. But, this doesn’t necessarily mean you need to spend the cash to join.

If you’ve never signed up for Amazon prime before, then you can actually get access to a trial of Amazon Prime for free. That means you can get access to all these great deals without spending a cent on membership!

Unfortunately, if you’ve been a member in the past but decided to cancel your membership, then the free trial won’t be available to you. But, it’s worth bearing in mind that one month’s membership to Amazon Prime is less than $10 and if you’re buying a TV (or any other tech products) then that will be far outweighed by the savings you’ll make.

Prime Day TV Deals – What To Look For

Buying a TV is a big purchase, so you need to make sure that you’re choosing the right one for you and your setup. Don’t just get blindsided by amazing discounts – great as they might be, you need to make sure that you’re getting the best deal possible by choosing the best TV possible. So, here are the things you need to look out for when searching for the best Amazon Prime Day TV deals.

Size

Just like with gaming monitors, size really can matter. Of course, with a TV, for most people, bigger is better – but you need to make sure you’re grabbing a TV that will fit into your setup. Pay extra attention to whether it comes with a central stand or feet on either end as well, as this will impact what surface it can fit on.

OLED Vs. LED

When you’re looking at grabbing a new TV, there are two primary types you’re likely to come across – OLED and LED. While there may only be a single letter different in the two names, the technologies behind them provide very different results. If you’re looking for the best picture quality possible, then opting to go with an OLED TV will be your best bet. Thanks to its superior panel technology, you’ll experience true blacks and better overall pictures than you would with an LED.

There is another, emerging technology that you’re likely to see as well, and that’s QLED. These TVs improve upon existing LED technology by adding another “quantum” layer which allows for a more immersive experience by providing a greater color spectrum and enhancing brightness.

HDR

Nowadays, it would be very surprising for someone to be looking for a TV that wasn’t HDR. But, not all HDR TVs are born equal – you need to look into the details. You need to check what contrast ratio and color gamut your chosen TV comes with. For true HDR, it should come with a native contrast ratio of 3000:1 or above and either DCI-P3 or REC.2020 color gamuts. If all those random words and numbers mean nothing to you, you can check out our guide on HDR and why it’s worth it.

Refresh Rate

Just like monitors, you need to make sure your TV comes with the right refresh rate for you. TVs range from 60Hz to 240Hz. There’s no word yet on whether we’ll see 360Hz TVs anytime soon – but we know that 360Hz monitors are on the horizon so only time will tell. But, as with monitors, the higher the refresh rate you can grab, the better.
