You probably have at least have some experience playing an Elder Scrolls title, whether it be the vastly popular Skyrim, or perhaps the ever-iconic Oblivion. Either way, if you want to further that experience in MMORPG form, then now’s the best time to get into The Elder Scrolls Online during a ‘free play event’, or buy the game for good while it’s on sale.

Some even better news you may have missed is that this MMORPG is no longer purely subscription-based, so now’s a good time to purchase – even if you only plan on playing from time to time. This promotion won’t be running for long though, so make the most of it while you still can.

The Elder Scrolls Online is free to play for limited time

Like we said, you don’t have much time to waste – head on over to The Elder Scrolls Online Steam store page and check out the free play event, which is generously longer than your usual free weekend. The game is available both on Windows and Mac, and the system requirements aren’t too hard to meet.

As described in this official blog post, the free play event started on April 2nd, and will be running up until Tuesday, April 9th on all platforms. You’ll have access to the base game, including four unique classes:

  • Sorcerer
  • Nightblade
  • Templar
  • Dragonknight

Another neat bonus is that you won’t lose progress made in the free to play week, as you can continue where you left off by simply buying the full game (which is cheaper than ever as we explain below).

Now cheaper than it was in the Steam Spring Sale

Even though we’re still waiting for the next Steam sale, The Elder Scrolls Online has been discounted even lower than it was back during the Spring sale. It is now 75% off, bringing the price down to just $4.99 for the Standard Edition. This offer will end on April 16th, so you have a little bit of time to think about it.

Additionally, the Necrom collection is 67% off (also ending on the 16th), so you can instead opt for more content (including the base game) for $9.89 – especially if you’re impressed with what you see in the free play event.

To compare with the recent Steam Spring Sale, we can see from the price history below that it has now dropped to it’s lowest-ever price outside of other free to play promotions. In the Spring sale, it instead cost $5.99 – so now there’s an extra dollar off to celebrate.
