The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is one of my all-time favorite games and will forever have a place in my heart. It seems there are many other people who feel the same way, as there are rumors that an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake might be in the works.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion might be getting a remake

Oblivion is the 4th installment of the Elder Scroll series made by Bethesda Studios. You know them, they’re the ones responsible for bringing Fallout to the 3D world, another fantastic games series. Ad it seems that they have implied the help of an outside studio to re-enhance the beautiful game that is Oblivion.

At this point, it is currently unknown to what extent the 2006 classic known as Oblivion will be remade, whether it will be a fresh coat of paint or a full-on remake. The leak comes to us from an Ex-employee of a Singapore-based studio named Virtuos Games.

The Reddit post, and the user that made it have since been deleted, but we do have a screenshot courtesy of Xfire.

This fairly unsubstantiated rumor states that the Oblivion remake, or remaster (still unconfirmed) will blend Unreal Engine 5 and the old Oblivion (Gamebryo) engine. Which is an incredibly puzzling mix. I suppose it makes sense, you can’t change the janky physics of Oblivion, it’s part of its charm. However, we’re more than happy for Unreal Engine 5 to give the game a much-needed coat of paint.

This leak suggests that the Virtuous Games remaster of the Elder Scrolls Oblivion will be available between the end of 2024, and the start of 2025.

What about Skyblivion?

Interestingly enough, fans are already remaking Oblivion inside of the Skyrim game engine. The game is creatively called Skyblivion, and it’s been in development for around 8 years now. We kind of hope the rumors are not true, because it’s going to break the developers of Skyblivion. I for one, was really looking forward to Skyblivion, which, by the way, is also estimated to release in 2025.

I for one love the look and feel of modded Oblivion, and I don’t feel Skyblivion will ruin the feel the original game had, this is because the remake is made by fans, for fans. The big studio may not have that same passion, and has the potential to ruin the games feel trying to make it better.

It’s looking good for Skyblivion I have to say, but only time will tell which will come out on top.

The fact that An Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake might be in the works is massive, considering it’s my all-time favorite game, I will be bringing you updates on this as it develops.
