We may be a little bit biased, but The Finals is one of the best FPS games as of late, especially if you’re a fan of some fast-paced action, teamwork, and a healthy serving of environmental destruction. Anyway, the important news is that Season 2 is here in just a matter of days and it brings a list of new weapons, new specializations, and even a new 5v5 gamemode.
In tandem with the gameshow-like setup, Season 2 brings a hacking-themed twist that sees the addition of a new voxelized map and a new hacker playstyle, according the official PlayStation Blog. This update will of course be available on Steam and Xbox Series X/S platforms as well.
The Finals season 2 is hacker-themed
The hacking theme is obvious once you take a look at the trailer, with a retro 80s look (and music) to match. The addition of some brand-new gadgets transports that theme straight into the gameplay with new additions for each of the classes – Light, Medium, and Heavy.
Class | Gadget | Description |
---|---|---|
Light | Gateway | Limited-range portal that teleports players and objects between locations – you cannot see or shoot through them |
Medium | Dematerializer | Temporarily erases a small area of a surface that can be closed back up |
Medium | Data Reshaper | Allows the player to change an object into the world into something else – great for removing enemy mines for example |
Heavy | Anti-Gravity Cube | A cube that is deployed, causing an anti-gravity effect within a certain range that affects players and objects |
New weapons, new map, and more
Some players may feel that the game is getting a little tired, given the relatively limited amount of weaponry, abilities, and gadgets thus far. We’ve already gone over some of the new gadgets that really add to Season 2’s hacker theme – but what else can you look forward to? Here’s a quick list of what’s to come:
- New game mode – 5 vs 5 Power Shift, which seems to involve a moving (and very destructive) control point
- New weapons – users spotted a burst assault rifle, burst pistol, and a pump action shotgun
- New abilities
- New map – voxel-like style makes destruction much blockier
- Private matches
We also assume that there will be a new battle pass and all the cosmetics that come along with it. Some new costumes are featured in the short reveal trailer as well as the promotional graphic. The new Season starts on March 14th, so you don’t have to wait long at all.
