Here’s why you may want to hold off on the latest update to your LG OLED TV

More and more people are getting access to webOS 23 on their 2022 LG TV, with many owners of the popular LG C2 OLED in particular posting about it online. However, there seems to be some teething problems which are yet to be resolved. One of the biggest factors, at least to us, is that it could affect the Netflix app.
Back when LG announced that they’re supporting webOS updates for five years, we were all for it. Early problems for users upgrading though may make you want to think twice. Even though it does mean you’ll be able to get rid of annoying ads, we’d hold off on the update for the time being.
2022 models get webOS 23, but users are reporting problems
We recently talked about how the LG C2 is still relevant to this day, especially thanks to LG’s promise of updates to newer versions of webOS now coming to fruition. While some people may be loving the fresh update to the operating system, others are reporting that it breaks more than it fixes.
LG has introduced webOS 23 to all 2022 model TVs, bringing them more up to date with a fresher look. The problem is, as evident from this Reddit thread, that some functionality is being lost. Quite a few users are reporting that the Netflix app won’t update, even after troubleshooting the problem. Another says that Netflix isn’t working at all, even after a factory reset.
Should I upgrade to webOS 23?
Upgrading to webOS 23 does bring some valuable upgrades, such as an improved user interface and quicker access to your most-used content. That being said, we’d recommend waiting to update as problems are ironed out, especially if you often use the Netflix app. Other downsides for some users include a dimmer display and changes to the magic remote pointer.
From what we understand, you can’t revert back to webOS 22, at least according to this TechRadar article from when the beta first went live (and this Reddit comment). This makes deciding whether to upgrade a little trickier. Though, not every user is experiencing problems and it could just be a vocal minority – so the upgrade may still be worth it if you don’t mind the risk.
