The Finals is one the most interesting FPS games to release as of late, recently entering a new season. While the introduction of Season 2 had plenty of players on board, these additional changes coming just a couple of weeks later have not gone down too well. The game’s developers, Embark, have announced that two game modes are ‘leaving the stage’.

For many, the removal of game modes seems like a step in the wrong direction. They do tease that an Easter-themed holiday event is coming in this week’s update, but we doubt that will make up for the loss of your favorite mode.

Embark announce a change to playable game modes

Two game modes – Bank It and Unranked Tournament – will be removed from the current matchmaking selection. In a post on their Discord server, Community Lead Dusty revealed that these two modes have the fewest people playing them, warranting a shuffle. That being said, we’d say that this depends on region quite a bit.

One mode is returning though – Cashout, a casual 3v3v3v3 mode which more closely resembles the ranked tournament format. With these changes, it looks like objective-based modes are being prioritized, especially with the release of Power Shift in Season 2. As one user says: ‘Light community in shambles‘.

In this Reddit thread, plenty of people have voiced their opinion on the removals, some commenting that the lack of game modes is already a problem in The Finals. This of course is a controversial change given that some people will stick almost exclusively to one mode, and this effectively limits their interest. It could even lead to the loss of dedicated players.

Will this change be reverted?

We haven’t seen any news that this change will be reverted in any way, despite some backlash from the community. Embark do say that these modes ‘aren’t gone forever’, so we will likely see them back in rotation in some way or another. Likewise, they are still available to play in Private Matches.

Like we said earlier, more objective-based formats seem to be the game’s current direction. Especially since Bank It is leaving, which acts as a more Team Deathmatch kind of mode for players to warm up in (and a favorite for Light players).
