LG has recently released information on their newest OLED TV advancement, the META Technology 2.0. With a history of innovation in OLED panel design, this comes with the announcement of the new G4 at CES 2024 and it represents the company’s desire to surpass the historic limitations of OLEDs.

At CES 2024 the company unveiled their first ever 83-inch OLED TV panel featuring the brand new META 2.0. Compared to the previous technology, this panel is around 42% brighter. That makes it the first-ever OLED TV panel to reach 3000 nits in peak brightness. Considering the META 1.0 technology brought us a 30% increase in brightness the previous year, LG is here cementing its spot as a top innovator in OLED. The last two years have gone leaps and bounds to beat what many believe to be the greatest weakness of OLED TVs.

While LG hasn’t given full information on when the G4 will be available to buy and when we could have access to this improved panel, it may not be too long a wait and we’ve been able to give an accurate prediction of the G4 release date as well as where to buy the G4.

New tech could be the answer to OLED’s underwhelming brightness

Aside from the G4, LG produces a vast range of OLED TVs from the C Series, B Series, and beyond and it’s likely that this new technology will trickle down through the different ranges and will help to solve some of the issues of day time viewing on OLED TVs of various price points.

We also expect competing OLED manufacturers to strive to equal or even surpass the 3000 nits laid out by LG. Samsung has historically been the closest rival to LG in OLED TVs. Last year they were both sat at 2000 nits and they have even managed to match LG again with their QD-OLED S95D that has allegedly got the same brightness level. All of this could mean that the impact of the META Technology 2.0 could ripple through the TV market and it could indeed be a brighter future for us all.
