Rainbow Six Siege Year 8 Season 1 has dropped. We’ve seen some great implementation of both fun and unique playstyles, as well as team balancing with the new attacking Operator, Brava. Also included in the update were important gameplay updates including a more immersive reload update.

However, an impactful update is the MouseTrap feature launching later in the season. This serves to make the game more fair for those playing on console by detecting and removing players who are using keyboard and mouse.

Rainbow 6 Siege Anti-Cheat MouseTrap feature

The usage of mouse and keyboard on console is not something that is solely an issue within the Rainbow Six Siege community, but it is a problem that many games are addressing.

Using third party adapters like Xim 4 to trick the game’s coding into thinking you are using a controller, or any other method to override the basic functions of the game’s mechanics is cheating.

The MouseTrap feature will detect these players and activate a new penalty. Here’s the neat part: The penalty won’t just boot you out the game and ban you, it will add additional latency to the inputs of these users, making it harder to aim and shoot.

And, get this, if the detected mouse and keyboard user chooses to play with a controller, the effect of the ‘MouseTrap’ will slowly be lessened.

When is the Rainbow Six Siege anti-cheat update coming?

According to a Twitter post made by Ubisoft and Rainbow Six Siege, this update will be launched sometime in April of this year.

Xim community combats the MouseTrap

Xim itself is working to find ways to spoof the anti-spoof, so to speak, including through the implementation of new privacy options.

Mousetrap was switched off a few hours after it was unexpectedly activated, which according to sources was accidentally turned on in the first place. This apparently gave Xim an opportunity to take advantage of.

In a forum post, a Xim rep said: “We learned a lot in this short time. Please do continue to use our new Privacy Settings and provide feedback there so we can refine the process.”

It appears that Xim will be sticking to their guns, choosing to remain endorsement of PC controller settings on console games.
