As we previously reported, the RTX 3080 12GB launches today. Nvidia has been keeping quiet about this seemingly stealth release of yet another of their flagship GPU, which looks to improve on the core count and clock speed of the base RTX 3080. It’s thought that the RTX 3080 12GB models are made from chips that did not survive the rigorous die binning process that would more often make for another GA102 based chip like the RTX 3080Ti. We’ve listed all of the known specifications for the RTX 3080 12GB here.

French retailer confirms GPU launch

We have had yet another confirmation of the launch from French retailer Materiel.net, who tweeted that the RTX 3080 12GB will be launching at 15:00 CET, which means that an official launch for the new graphics card is merely hours away. Interestingly, the retailer has also commented that there will almost certainly not be enough stock for everyone who wants one. This far into the global semiconductor shortage, we can’t say that we are not too surprised at this development.

We also have additional evidence in the form of leaked imagery from EVGA, as reported by Videocardz. The imagery features a model of GPU that we know that EVGA makes, their flagship FTW3 Ultra series of graphics cards, as the box, proudly displays 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM.

We expect that the RTX 3080 12GB will be a relatively marginal upgrade on the base model’s 10GB of VRAM, which will make the newer card better for users wanting to split their GPU with virtualization, or use it to run the latest games at a high resolution. We expect pre-orders to almost immediately sell out, but never fear, you can find where to get one of these GPUs right here at WePC.

Wondering where all of the GPUs went? EVGA also lost a shipment of graphics cards that turned up in Vietnam.
