Saints Row series reboot shown at Gamescom 2021 Opening Night Live

Update — August 25, 2021 at 19:17 BST:

Saints Row was confirmed to be a series reboot at Gamescom. The Saints Row reboot release date is February 25, 2022.

You can watch the trailer below.

THQ Nordic and Volition have been teasing a new Saints Row, and fans have been eagerly anticipating the next entry in the hit game franchise for a while. The hype became reality when Geoff Keighley and the brand’s official Twitter account started to tease that Saints Row would be at gamescom, with an image that showed the series iconic white fleur-de-lis logo next to the word ‘Rebooting’.

After a handful of slightly disappointing Saints Row entries that involved super powers, zombie apocalypses, alien invasions, virtual realities and even a magical trip to hell itself, the series is at last returning to crime storytelling, with good music, fast cars and loud guns.

There’s definitely a spot in the market for Volition’s Saints Row to take back it’s place as a real and beloved competitor to Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto franchise, which hasn’t had a fresh entry —or a new city to explore and commit heinous crimes in— in 8 years. We generally think it’s a good idea.

Character customization is likely to be a large component of the brand new Saints Row, as players have been able to put their own spin on the leader of the Third Street Saints, also known as ‘Playa’ or ‘The Boss’ since the very first entry back in 2006.

Word on the street is that the Saints Row reboot game will release on February 25, 2022. It will be on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5 and PC, where it will be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store.
