There are two things that we humble PC gamers spend an insurmountable amount of time touching when engaging with the digital world… no, not that. The mouse and humble keyboard. The line between digital and physical is a tangible one. The mouse, the keyboard. These items and their connection to our interactions act as a pivotal focal point of that.

Cons
  • thumb buttons can be hard to reach if you have bigger hands

In fact, this is so much the case, that generally speaking, a good mouse will stay with you. There’ll be the first Optical mouse you used, the first ball mouse, the first laser mouse, that mouse that you were using playing Wrath of the Lich King, that mouse you used in Witcher 3, that mouse you had that time you got hardcore into Star Citizen. Finding the right mouse for you is incredibly important, and a heavy consideration. Touch is a powerful sensation and one you need to nurture.

That’s where Glorious comes in. By now you’ll likely have heard of this epic gaming brand. Fed up with the big boys taking all the spotlight and marking up mice, keyboards, and everything in between, glorious stepped into the fray to bring down the cost, whilst retaining exceptional quality across its product ranges, with an incredible focus predominantly on the humble mouse.

Glorious this year launched the Model I 2 Wireless and it is an absolute beast of a gaming mouse. Thankfully our friends over at Overclocker’s UK sent us one to play around with. With that in mind let’s break it down, shall we?

The Glorious Model I 2

Second generation? Evolutionary step up? New kid on the block? Take your pick, the Model I 2 Wireless is a phenomenal piece of kit. Based on a similar design to the original Model I that launched way back, the Model I 2 Wireless takes things to the next level.

Designed predominantly for MMOs and those multi-button games out there, this super-light wireless mouse packs in 9 programmable buttons, and comes in at an incredible 75g total weight. That last metric is nuts. We know what you’re thinking: “75g? Not that light for a mouse.” Sure, there are lighter mice out there, but there’s one caveat to that, this thing is wireless, and more than that, it has a 210-hour battery life as well. 210. Crazy. It’s not your garden variety mouse that’s for sure.

Button-mania

Available in two separate colorways the bulk of the buttons lie on the left-hand side of the mouse. Giving you unparalleled access to several keybinds on the fly. By default, you have access to three key buttons (which you can swap and change out by the way), along with the action button front and center. Its default setting is to be used as a DPI lock, but what you can do instead is change it to effectively act like a function key, allowing you to add a layer of bindings to all 9 of your buttons on the mouse.

That gives you an effective 6 buttons on that side, and a total of 16 button mapping options total across the entire mouse. Which is more than enough for even the most hard-core MMO gamer. The big advantage to this, is, that by doing this, it doesn’t alter the shape or size of the mouse, several competitor brands have MMO mice with great banks of buttons on the side of them. They might be slidable, interchangeable, whatever, but the reality is that those mouse buttons inevitably have an impact on the overall ergonomic design of the mouse itself. The shape changes. Not so with the Model I 2. It still retains that fantastically svelte form factor and is perfect for this writer’s palm grippy style of err… grip.

The Bread and Butter

But let’s not forget about the basics here. On top of that button madness and ergonomic, lightweight, wireless brilliance. You also get Glorious’ BAMF 2.0 optical sensor, capable of driving up to 26,000 CPI, connectivity options for Bluetooth, Wireless, and Wired, and intuitive RGB lighting all for just £89.99.

Ultimately, if you’re big into your mobas, your space sims, your MMOs, or just want a do-it-all mouse, that doesn’t compromise on ergonomics for the sake of buttons, then the Model I 2 wireless is the absolute perfect pick. Pick one up today from OCUK.
