While ChatGPT is undoubtedly an impressive language model that is capable of generating text and responding to questions, it has its limitations, particularly when it comes to creating Powerpoint presentations. This is because ChatGPT is an AI language model, so visual responses like a slide are not possible. That being said, ChatGPT can provide you with talking points for a presentation based on the topic and data you provide.

So, without further ado, let’s explain the features and drawbacks of ChatGPT when it comes to helping you deliver an engaging PowerPoint presentation (to whatever audience).

Can ChatGPT create a Powerpoint presentation?

ChatGPT lacks the ability to create visual elements, such as graphs, images, and multimedia content, which are integral to creating engaging and effective presentations. In addition, formatting text in a specific layout that is suitable for PPTs is not within ChatGPT’s capabilities. While it can generate text based on a given prompt, it is unable to manipulate that text into a specific format or design.

Thus, even though ChatGPT can be a valuable tool for generating text content for presentations, it is not a suitable replacement for traditional PPT software. Creating presentations requires a combination of text, visual elements, and formatting, which are beyond the current capabilities of ChatGPT.

Despite its limitations, ChatGPT can still be an invaluable resource for creating compelling presentations by generating high-quality text content and offering guidance and advice on how to craft an effective presentation. Whether you’re looking to refine your language or improve the structure and flow of your slides, ChatGPT can help you create a polished and engaging presentation that will captivate your audience.

How to use ChatGPT to help with Powerpoint

As stated above, all you need to do is ask ChatGPT the question. Gather the information that you want to turn in a presentation and the AI tool will start to give you title hints, introduction hints, and body content slides for the meat of your slideshow.

  • Login to ChatGPT
  • Ask ChatGPT to turn inserted data into a presentation
  • Review and start to ask further questions breaking down each slide until you have a complete presentation.

Microsoft 365 Copilot and Powerpoint

Microsoft 365 Copilot is an exciting project with the aim of bringing AI assistance into all of the 365 programs. That means it will soon be possible to create a PowerPoint presentation with the power of AI.

In a video Microsoft released in March they showed off some of the capabilities of Copilot within PowerPoint. They demonstrated the ability to take notes made in a Word document and seamlessly transform them into a fully fledged PowerPoint presentation. Copilot also created a whole additional slide complete with image and text from a short prompt given to it.

Microsoft have also announced the integration of DALL-E into PowerPoint, which means you’ll be able to generate AI images within the application.

Copilot is currently only available to a very limited number of users and Microsoft are yet to announce a Microsoft Copilot release date.
