As users begin to settle into the gameplay, there’s always a lot to learn and pick up on. But let’s start off with the basics, beginning first with how to shoot.

Scoring is the name of the game. And if you want to do more than just get easy layups and breakaway dunks, its best to get a good feel for shooting the ball from mid-range and beyond.

With that said, let’s get right to it and review the jump shot and free throw shooting controls in NBA 2K23.

Additional Tips: As per usual, shooting in NBA 2K23 comes down to timing. In comparison to previous editions where the shot meter moved quicker, this year you have the hold the shot button longer, and the margin for error upon release is pretty small.

The trick when shooting is to release right when the meter fills up to the very brim. Doing so a tad early or late, will result in a missed shot eight to nine times out of ten. This includes when you shoot from the free throw line as well, sometimes requiring a player to hold the button down even longer.

In addition, your shooting success will also depend on how good each player’s shooting ratings are. The better their rating is, the easier you’ll find it to shoot and score.
