These older iPhones and iPads were reportedly vulnerable to a remote code execution (RCE) which would spell danger for anyone still using one of these older devices.

Apple iPhone and iPad security patches

As we mentioned, the security patches are now released to ensure that your old iPhone or iPad won’t be susceptible to adding breaches or hacks through this RCE. What we’re referring to exactly is the CVE-2023-23529 vulnerability which is now widely recognized.

This particular vulnerability is a ‘type confusion issue’ which could mean that processing malicious web content could lead to the arbitrary code execution, otherwise known as remote code execution. Thankfully, the issue was fixed in:

  • iOS 16.3.1
  • iPadOS 16.3.1
  • macOS Ventura 13.2.1
  • Safari 16.3

Now that the patches are here thanks to the iOS 15.7.4, iPadOS 15.7.4, and the new iOS 16.4 versions, you can be reassured that you’re safe from this particular gap in Apple’s armor as it’s now been sealed.
