With the RTX 4080 Super dropping today, news of a very special SKU has surfaced. ASUS have yet again partnered with popular PC cooling company Noctua to create an iconic rendition of the 4080 Super. The design features two of Noctua’s premium fans and looks just like the ASUS x Noctua edition we saw for the original 4080.

Noctua is an Austrian company that is well known for their specialization in PC cooling – particularly their ultra-quiet premium air fans and CPU coolers. The offical ASUS website shows a listing of this new card, which again features the iconic Noctua brown and beige color scheme. While the design and specs look great, we’re left with a big question over the price, which was less than savory last time around.

As the release date as arrived, don’t miss out on our where to buy RTX 4080 Super page to find the very best selection of cards at launch.

The biggest selling point of this card will be the silent operation. Noctua’s premium fans deliver a strong cooling solution which is hard to match. This RTX 4080 Super features two 120mm Noctua NF-A12x25 PWN fans. Specs reveal that the card is based around ASUS’ TUF RTX 408 Super, using this as a base for the heatsink and optimized vapor chamber. The frame has had to be bulked up to fit in the large 120mm fans however.

Like the original, there will be an OC mode for this card, producing a higher 2,640 MHz clock speed against the default mode’s 2,610 MHz. Other important specs include the Dual BIOS Switch to toggle between Performance and Quiet profiles and the 0dB technology, which keeps the fan near-silent under light-medium loads.

Will the RTX 4080 Super Noctua edition be worth it?

The original RTX 4080 Noctua was a pretty hard sell for most people. It was released back in March 2023 at an eye-watering $1,649 – which was $450 more than the already-loathed 4080 MSRP. As you can see in this Reddit thread, many users noted that you could simply buy an RTX 4090 for this price and underclock it for quiet running, yet still enjoy much better performance than the 4080.

We’d have to say that this 4080 Super Noctua edition should be left to the enthusiasts that love the aesthetic, going for a full Noctua-branded build perhaps? The lower $999 MSRP of the 4080 Super does mean that this special edition SKU may be cheaper than last time, but we don’t see it as particularly excellent value for money in any case.

It would make more sense to us for the RTX 4090 to get the Noctua treatment, as anyone with enough disposable cash for a premium model like this might as well get the flagship.
