If the current line-up doesn’t quite meet your expectations then you may be interested in something new; well, Nvidia has you covered with a refresh to its Ada range. With three new GPUs, we look at the top choice and in particular the RTX 4080 Super specs. The Super range was skipped with the RTX 30 series, but it is coming for the 40 series instead. Ahead of the RTX 50 series release, which has been said to be coming later than usual, Nvidia might be trying to patch up the line-up with these new GPUs. Even if the RTX 4080 Super might not be the card we need, it can offer some benefits to what is available with the spare processors, and the 4080 Super release date will give a good expectation of when you can grab one.

Bringing a mid-gen upgrade it does bring some excitement for some new GPUs. Especially considering AMD’s Radeon range now offers some mid-range performance for a good value, the RTX Supers might be an answer to that. However, with the higher pricing of the top end of the Ada lineup, that might be highly unlikely.

RTX 4080 specs

RTX 4080 specs confirmed, and once again the leakers were right on the dot with what the GPU has to offer

  • GPU: AD103-400
  • CUDA cores: 10,240
  • Clock rate: 2,295MHz base, 2,550MHz boost
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6X
  • Memory bus: 256-bit
  • Memory clock: 23Gbps

*OLD* The notorious leaker kopite7kimi has offered a potential look at what the Super range might have to offer. Including the RTX 4080 Super, which brings some new updates over the initial version of the card, so let’s see what that is. Along with the initial pointers, they have also suggested the power consumption of the cards. As the rumored date comes closer, more specs have been leaked and rumored as reported by Videocardz.

The AD103-400 processor stays on the same die size as the 80 model but with a different number of processing cores from the 400 variety, similar to the difference between the 4070 and its Ti model. Plus it would only provide about 512 more CUDA cores than the 4080 and much less than the flagship itself, likely limited by the size of the die and how many cores are left compared to it.

Overall it seems to be between a 1.8 to 5.3% boost over the base RTX 4080. Providing more memory bandwidth and speed but what will be more interesting to see is the price and if it can offer a better value. We don’t expect to see it for cheaper, so it’s still going to be an expensive option to go for.

Will the RTX 4080 Super increase VRAM?

As the GPU is still featuring the AD103 GPU, it is limited to the 256-bit bus. That means Nvidia is keeping the 16GB GDDR6X VRAM setup of the RTX 4080. The only difference comes from the memory clock and therefore the bandwidth, squeezing just that bit more out of it for some more performance.

Will the RTX 4080 Super come close to the RTX 4090?

With the suggested specs and benchmarks provided, the RTX 4080 Super is not going to be close to the RTX 4090. As with the 10,240 CUDA cores, it’s over 6,000 less than the flagship so it’s unlikely to be able to come up close to its performance. Considering the 4080 Super will have a bit more than the 80, it will just be a slight boost over the RTX 4080 and we’ll get to see by how much in reviews.
