In the battle of RTX 4080 Super vs 4070 Ti Super we’ve got everything you need to know to help you pick between them. As the main line-up of the Ada series seems to come to a conclusion, the 40-series Super options have come out as a (potentially) last hurrah for the series. But what are the options available and how much difference is there between these powerful cards? If you’re looking to fit one of these in your rig, be sure to check out our best PC case for RTX 4080 Super guide.

The RTX 4080 Super and 4070 Ti Super are the two most powerful of the line-up announced so far. Both of these were announced at the CES 2024 event, providing a new range of GPUs to consider for your next build. The RTX 4070 Ti Super release is the second of the lot coming out on the 24th of Jan 2024, whereas the RTX 4080 Super release comes a week after on the 31st. But what are the key differences between them in terms of specs and likely performance?

Comparing the two choices, we start with what they have to offer in the core. We see how the 4080 Super specs vs 4070 Ti Super differ with what the differences are. Starting with the processor, the GPU itself is on the same die now, and the 70 Ti upgrades to the AD103 of the 80 option. Yet keeps down to a lower-tier option, that’s where the CUDA cores differ with a near 2,000 fewer on the 4070 Ti Super.

These are capable of running at a higher frequency though, seemingly overclocked against the 4080 Super as the 4070 Ti Super edges ahead with a 45-60MHz base and boost of the stock card. As for the memory, the options are consistent between the two except for the clock and bandwidth. Although the 70 Ti Super upgrades to 16GB of GDDR6X it comes 1Gbps slower and so is behind by 64GB/s.

This does come at a cost though, as looking at the total graphics power the 4080 Super does require a lot more to run. With a 35W higher count it does mean a higher cost to run as well.

How much better is the 4080 Super vs 4070 Ti Super? – Expectations

Since the 4080 Super embargo is not yet up, we don’t know the exact performance of the GPU and are able to compare it against the 4070 Ti Super. However, the 70 Ti Super already has been evaluated and we can see how the 4070 Ti Super vs 4080 does instead. Looking at Techspot’s review, we see how they compare. But we do find that the 4070 Ti Super doesn’t quite reach the levels of the 4080. We see the 4070 Ti Super fall behind by 12% at 1080p, 17% at 1440p, and 20% at 4K on average in 12 games. That means when the 4080 Super is released it will likely extend that gap even further since the 4080 Super vs 4080 offers a few improvements as well. We would expect to see another few percent increases at each level so that could even extend to a 15-25% difference.

*Update* – there has been some more leaked information which may shed further light on the performance of the new card. Have a read of the following pieces to get the scoop: early Blender scores shows that the RTX 4080 Super is barely an improvement and these leaked RTX 4080 Super benchmarks could ruin launch day for you.

How much more expensive is the 4080 Super than 4070 Ti Super?

If you were thinking of getting either graphics card option, the cost is obviously a big factor in deciding which you want to actually buy. The Supers in general bring plenty of value to the table now by offering more for the same price over the original choices but with an improved spec.

Comparing the 4080 Super vs 4070 Ti Super there is a bit of a monetary difference between them. Although the 80 Super dropped its price compared to the previous offering, it’s still higher than the 70. As the RTX 4080 Super has a $200 higher MSRP than the 4070 Ti Super. With launch prices of $999 and $799 respectively. However, these can vary depending on what model you get and if they increase the asking price. Is RTX 4080 Super overkill?

For its price and expected performance, the 4080 Super is rather overkill for most users. Since it is at the higher end with such a higher-end cost, it is unattainable by plenty. Plus it is not a requirement for most as not everyone is yet sporting a 4k monitor or needing a high refresh rate and therefore framerate. Most of what it can do can be achieved by a lower-tier option so it’s hard to recommend such an option when you can get all you need from something below.

Cons

Is the 4080 Super worth it over 4070 Ti Super?

Even without the 4080 Super being released, we can see it’s a harder recommendation between the 4080 Super vs 4070 Ti Super. As the lower tier option is already capable of even 4K performance of at least 60FPS. So the 4080 Super is unlikely to offer much more and you can save yourself hundreds of dollars on it. You still get all the features of the 40 series like DLSS 3 so it just comes down to specs and performance and since we already know the specs aren’t too dissimilar, the performance is what will have to sway you.
