According to this, we can see that Samsung is going to include a heart rate monitor and an oxygen saturation sensor, which seem like odd additions to earbuds.

However, there is a method to this madness as the ear has a strong blood supply, so measuring your pulse and therefore heart rate is easy and pretty accurate. For the same reason, it’s a good place to measure blood oxygen saturation too. However, given the prevalence of these features in smartwatches and phones already, it might be a little superfluous.
