If you’re searching around for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date, specs, or price info then the first thing to state is that Samsung has yet to confirm anything about the next Galaxy foldable. That being said, given the pretty large amount of leaks and rumors which have come out on the device, we do believe that the new phone’s launch is imminent and that we can make some educated guesses about it. As we gear up for the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2023 event, where all should be revealed (alongside the first glimpse of its sibling the Galaxy Z Flip 5) we’ve gathered together the latest predictions and information from the most respected leakers in the game for you to have a look at.

With a new generation of phones, you understandably expect some improvements. This upcoming foldable device is rumored to have better durability, improved display technology, better internals, and more, but time will tell if the changes are significant enough (and the pricing reasonable enough), to make it still worth the money in an increasingly competitive foldable phone market.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold release date history

Samsung launched their very first foldable smartphone in 2019 and wowed everyone. The South-Korean tech giant is one of the first companies to have launched fully operational foldables in the market. Over the years, the company has refined the foldable formula, which led to the release of a more refined Galaxy Z Fold 4.

While the company hasn’t officially discussed the release date of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5, we can get a clear idea of the company’s foldable release window by looking at the previous Galaxy Z Fold release dates. Do remember that the initial launch (where the device is unveiled) doesn’t mean it is immediately available, which is where we’ve made a distinction. More information can be found here.

  • Samsung Galaxy Fold release date: February 20, 2019 (announced) / September 6, 2019 (release date)
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 release date: August 5, 2020 (announced / September 18, 2020 (release date)
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 release date: August 11, 2021 (announced) / August 27, 2021 (release date)
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 release date: August 10, 2022 (announced) / August 25, 2022 (release date)

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date prediction

The first Samsung Fold appeared in 2019, and since then, the company has launched new foldable smartphones every year. So, there’s no reason to believe Samsung will skip this year. Samsung have officially announced the Samsung Unpacked event for July 26th, something we previously knew about through rumors. This year it will be taking place in Seoul, South Korea. Samsung leads the marketing with ‘Join the flip side’, which at least confirms the reveal of the Flip 5, but we expect the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 to feature too.

Based on the previous two years, Samsung have released the new Galaxy Z Fold just over two weeks after announcing it, so we expect that pattern to make a return. Based on that, we can predict that the release date will be on August 10 or August 11, 2023, which would be on a Thursday or Friday. Interestingly, the announcement always happens on a Wednesday, and they’ve all been released on a Friday, with the exception of the Fold4 releasing a day earlier on Thursday.

What Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 specs do we expect?

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is almost ready to be released, so rumors have been surfacing for a while now. The information we know so far suggests the company has plans to introduce a few key updates. So, here are what will likely be the specs of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Yogesh Brar, a Data Engineer and contributor to 91mobiles, tweeted what appears to be details about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5’s camera, and it looks like the Fold 5 may not be making any huge changes this time around. According to the tweet, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 could have a 50MP and 12MP ultrawide cameras, plus a 10MP telephoto lens. To add to this, leaker Mr. Ice Universe added that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 would come with the same 6.2″ external screen as the previous model (to the disappointment of those who wanted a bigger display).

The Galaxy Z Fold series has remained largely unchanged in its design in recent iterations. There’s been a minimal change to the overall look since the 2nd generation in 2020, and this trend seems to be continuing on. Yet again, reliable leaker UniverseIce reveals more about the frames and compares with the previous Fold4 on Twitter. A follow up tweet further demonstrates this.

Rumored new hinge design

The latest leak in the long list of Fold5 reveals is an update to the folding design. As Tom’s Guide reports, this looks to be a promising leak due to Samsung taking down the source. It reveals that there will be a gapless hinge design for the new smartphone, much like we’ve seen in the recent Google Pixel Fold. That means there is no longer a gap when the device is folded, a noticeable difference from older models. According to Ice Universe this will be a water drop-shaped hinge like that found in the Oppo Find N, and should help to give the phone a slimmer profile when being used in the conventional ‘phone’ form-factor.

Predicted Galaxy Z Fold 5 specs list

To help you out further, we thought we should put everything we know so far into an easy-to-read list. Do note that these represent rumors and leaks of specs, rather than a definitive list of the specifications for the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Here are the rumored specs:

  • Battery: 4,400 mAh, 25W wired charging

Potential Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 design renders leaked?

We’ve now got a much better look at the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 thanks to a bunch of leaked renders. These come courtesy of prominent leaker snoopytech on Twitter. This is where detailed renders of the Fold 5 surfaced online. Many outlets have since been reporting on the leak, such as NotebookCheck. They have now since been removed from snoopytech’s Twitter, presumably by request of Samsung. The renders show off the Cream, Icy Blue, and Phantom Black color variants, both folded and unfolded without a visible crease.

You can see the Icey Blue design full display above, alongside the Cream variant showing off the triple camera set-up on the Fold5.

What could the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 price be?

Now for the price of the device. There has been plenty of speculation in the build-up to the Galaxy Unpacked event where presumably all will be revealed. Since its close sibling the Flip5 is expected to see a sizeable price increase, the same could also be said for the Fold5. At the same time though, it looks like the Fold is going to see less upgrades from its predecessor like we’re seeing on the Flip. Let’s take a look at how the Fold series has fared in the past couple of entries.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 price: $1,799 (256GB) / $1,919 (512GB) / $2,159 (1TB)
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 price: $1,799 (256GB) / $1,899 (512GB)

For more storage space, you can see that the price increases a decent amount. Current rumors say that the Fold 5 won’t actually include a 1TB variant, at least on release, but we’ll have to wait and see how that turns out. As you can see that, the price hasn’t deviated much for the last two releases, both starting at the $1,799 level. These foldable phones are expected to continue to be a pricey option. More competition on the market could mean the price will stay around the same level instead of increasing.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 release date speculation FAQs

Is the Galaxy Z Fold 5 waterproof?

The latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 has an IPX8 rating, meaning it is water-resistant but not fully waterproof. However, the smartphone can still be submerged in fresh water for 30 minutes up to 1.5 meters of depth. We expect the Fold 5 to receive the same rating at the very least.

Does the Galaxy Z Fold break when folded?

The foldable form factor does make the device look fragile. But Samsung describes the devices as a tech built to last, and they are not wrong. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is durable and lasts up to 200,000 folds. The Fold 5 will likely also feature a less noticeable crease and a gapless design for the hinge.
