We can now officially see, that the Intel 14th generation will feature the same socket as its predecessor, the 13th generation – namely the LGA 1700 socket. What this means is the CPUs will belong to the same CPU socket and be compatible with the same motherboards from the 12th and 13th gen as a result. So we ask, will Intel’s 14th Gen work on Z690 motherboards?

Is Intel 14th Gen compatible with Z690 motherboards?
Since the Intel 14th generation is going to belong to the same socket as the 13th generation, that means that the 14th generation of Intel CPUs will be compatible with Z690’s best motherboards. You will likely need a motherboard BIOS update to ready your motherboard to take full advantage of the 14th-generation CPUs.

By extension, this also means that the 14th gen will likely be compatible with most, if not all, of the best CPU coolers that currently fit the 13th generation. However, you must ensure that the cooler you currently have has enough cooling capacity to handle the CPU you want. For example, if you wanted the 14900K, you’d likely have to have a cooler that can handle a TDP for around 300W. Luckily, our best CPU cooler for i9-14900K will help you out here.
It’s a nice move by Intel to keep the latest generation within the same CPU socket, it allows gamers to save money by not having to update their current motherboard to accommodate the new generation. If you’re someone who likes the best of the best, a top-notch motherboard can easily set you back around $1,000 and that’s without the cost of your new CPU added on top.
It’s moves like this that help cement the brand as “for the people” in the eyes of consumers, as we know, that times are tough right now, and not everyone has the extra funds to shell out on a new motherboard. Keeping things accessible is one way to win the war of AMD Vs Intel.
