Best Xbox & PC controller for WWE 2K24: SCUF Instinct Pro

  • Good build quality

  • Swappable thumbsticks
  • On-board profile switching
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Not compatible with PlayStation

We actually had the chance to get some hands-on experience with the SCUF Instinct Pro and it suits both PC and Xbox players exceptionally well. It is certainly more of a premium pick, but well worth it if you’re interested in investing plenty of time in WWE 2K24 or any other kind of controller-friendly title.

The great build quality puts it a step above you’re bog-standard Xbox controller and it comes with a number of extra features to take it to the next level. Hot-swappable thumbsticks is the first layer of customization on offer here, so you can pick out a shape and length of thumbstick from SCUF that suits you best. This also helps prolong the lifespan if the sticks are wearing down.

WWE 2K24 has plenty of combinations and moves to learn and the extra four programmable paddles on the back help you customize settings to your liking. The Pro edition of the SCUF Instinct also comes with a grippy texture on the back of the controller for, well, extra grip, to stop it from slipping during intense button mashing.

Another thing to mention in terms of premium features would be the dual-mode triggers. With a flick of a switch, you can toggle between standard cushiony, smooth triggers and a clicky instant-trigger mode. While this is much more relevant for FPS games, it’s a nice feature (that’s also on the SCUF Envision Pro we reviewed).

Best PlayStation controller for WWE 2K24: PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge

PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge controller

PS5 dualsense edge controller

Weight

335g/11.81oz

Connectivity

Bluetooth, USB Type-C

Additional buttons

2x extra buttons on the back. Choice of levers or half-dome

Battery life

5-10 hours

Pros
  • Better build quality than original
  • Trigger lengths are adjustable
  • Swappable analog sticks
  • Comfortable
  • Two extra back paddles
Cons
  • Premium price
  • Not compatible with PS4
  • Worse battery life than original

Next up is our premium choice for PlayStation players, though this sadly isn’t compatible with the PS4, just the same as the original DualSense. Our DualSense Edge review goes into great detail about this controller if you want a more comprehensive look, but we can give you the rundown here.

The PS5 DualSense Edge offers a full package which certainly gives off a premium feeling, as it should given the price tag. You get multiple thumbstick caps, back buttons, and even a carrying case included with this wireless controller.

It is weightier than the original model, which adds to the more robust build quality to withstand your 2K24 sessions. It has customizable back paddles, though just two of them compared to SCUF’s four. Still, a couple of extra buttons can go a long way. With the Edge, you can entirely replace the analog sticks to extend the life considerably, so you won’t have to fully replace it once dreaded stick drift kicks in.

All of the extra features packed in though does mean that this premium version does have a worse battery life, but it’s still within 5-10 hours depending on use.

Best budget controller for WWE 2K24: PowerA Enhanced Wired

PowerA Enhanced Wired Xbox controller

PowerA Pink Lemonade enhanced Xbox controller

Compatibility

Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC

Weight

7.2oz/204.1g

Buttons

Standard Xbox layout +3 programmable paddles

Connectivity

Micro USB

Ports

Micro USB, 3.5mm stereo headset jack

Cable length

10ft/3.05m

Pros
  • Tactile buttons
  • 3 programmable paddles
  • Mic volume rocker
  • Wide range of colors
Cons
  • Wired only (detachable)
  • Mediocre build quality

We can’t call this guide complete without talking to you about a more budget-friendly option. We’ve already covered premium picks for both Xbox and PS5 gamers, so here’s something different. In our PowerA Enhanced Xbox controller review, we had a look at the visually-appealing Pink Lemonade colorway, though this pad comes in a wide range of colors.

For a budget controller, PowerA has impressed us here. It has some features that you don’t even get on a standard Xbox ‘Core’ controller such as three programmable paddles and a microphone volume rocker – all for a cheaper price. Sure, the build quality isn’t quite as good as some other options out there, but not too shabby at all.

If you’re looking for the best value option, then PowerA is generally one of the best brands for the job. And while this controller is wired only, the micro USB cable is at least detachable to make for an easy replacement if your cable gets torn in future.

Do I need a good controller for WWE 2K24?

Having a high-quality controller is always advised if you want it to last a long time. If you’re familiar with the WWE series, you’ll probably understand that your controller can take a beating in this game – given all the mashing prompts. But you always have to consider your budget.

Many people will stick to the standard official Xbox or PlayStation controllers, and that’s fine, but we wanted to offer you a wider range to choose from. As for PC players, sticking with Xbox has always given the best compatibility, though you can make PlayStation pads work given Steam’s great controller support implementation these days, though a PS3 controller on PC is still a bit of a struggle.

Which controller layout is best for WWE 2K24?

Deciding on the physical layout of your controller is pretty much always going to be a preference-based thing. We suspect that many people grew up with one layout and will stick with it for as long as possible. Whether you prefer a symmetrical (PlayStation) or asymmetrical (Xbox) thumbstick layout is up to you, both of them work well for WWE 2K24.

Many third-party or premium controllers offer extra buttons, usually in the form of back paddles. If you want to free up your thumbs and have further customization, then these are very useful.

If you’re instead wondering about your in-game layout, then our friends at VideoGamer have put together a detailed guide to the best control settings for WWE 2K24.
