AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is expected to cost $479, making it $30 more expensive than the reigning champion, 7800X3D, as new leaks surface on X.

Over the past few weeks, speculation regarding the expected cost for the next-gen 9800X3D has been high. While we’ve seen information from third-party retailers and some occasional leakers, it seems we now have our first solid indication of how much AMD’s upcoming X3D chip will cost. According to highly reliable leaker Hoang Anh Phu, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is set to cost $479.

Hoang Anh Phu added a post on X today, announcing that the 9800X3D is set to see a $30 price increase compared to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. For those unaware, Hoang Anh Phu has a strong track record with his leaks regarding several AMD product plans, which leads us to believe that this information might be the closest we’ll get to the final pricing.

Back to the pricing, if this information is true, a $30 increase over previous models would place the Ryzen 7 9800X3D at $479, compared to the $449 price tag seen with the last two X3D models. Interestingly, this new pricing leak closely aligns with earlier listings from France and Lithuania and is only $5 lower than the TechAmerica leak we saw before.

But why the increase in the first place?

While nobody likes seeing companies charge more for future products when the existing ones already offer good value, in AMD’s defense, the next-gen X3D chip brings notable improvements over its predecessor. And if you aren’t aware of those expected upgrades, the 9800X3D will feature higher clock speeds, faster DDR5 memory support, and yield not only better gaming performance than the 7800X3D but also improved performance in synthetic workloads.

The most interesting and highly anticipated advancement with the 9800X3D is its rumored 2nd-gen 3D V-Cache technology, which has many wondering the benefits. All in all, If AMD has indeed managed to pack in meaningful upgrades that boost performance beyond the 7800X3D, waiting and spending $30 more on the 9800X3D might be the smarter choice—especially now that price hikes have pushed the 7800X3D to nearly match the expected price of the 9800X3D.
