AMD’s highly-anticipated Ryzen 7 9800X3D is planned to launch in early November and new leaks suggest that it will come with much higher clock speeds than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

The upcoming AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D V-Cache CPU is expected to be announced just a day after Intel launches its Core Ultra 200 series. According to Chiphell forum member, wjm47196, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will not only launch in the first week of November but will also feature significant performance upgrades in clock speeds. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D has been one of the best gaming processors recently, and with the Ryzen 9 9800X3D, AMD is seemingly planning on taking performance even further.

As speculated by Wccftech, we could see a performance uplift in the double-digits when comparing the 9800X3D to its closest Intel rival, making the 9800X3D a clean favorite for best CPU for gamers.

Ryzen 9 9800X3D will have a higher frequency than predecessor but will also cost more

Wjm47196 has disclosed that the Ryzen 9 9800X3D will have a “very high frequency” which was showcased in the recent leaks. To be specific, the chip is expected to have an all-core boost clock of up to 5.2 GHz, surpassing the single-core frequency of the 7800X3D, which is rated at 5.0 GHz. It’s also highly likely that the single-core frequency will be close to that of the 9700X, which is 5.5 GHz. This would mean that we can expect an increase of up to 500 MHz over its predecessor while providing similar single and multi-core performance.

However, great performance comes at a cost and the Ryzen 9 9800X3D is not expected to be cheap. Since the Ryzen 7 7800X3D launched at $449 US, we can safely expect a $400 US+ price point which means that the chip might even be more expensive than the Core Ultra 7 265K & KF SKUs.

Other specifications of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will include 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 5-core architecture. It will feature 32 MB of L3 cache and 64 MB of stacked 3D V-Cache SRAM, bringing the total cache to 96 MB, along with an additional 8 MB of L2 cache, resulting in a total cache pool of 104 MB.

Ryzen 9 9800X 3D V-Cache CPU continues to challenge Intel Core Ultra 200S

With Intel openly acknowledging that Arrow Lake CPUs will struggle to compete with AMD’s X3D series in gaming, the higher clock speeds of the Ryzen 9 9800X3D further widen that gap. Overall, the next-gen Ryzen 9000X3D processors are expected to deliver double-digit performance gains, making them strong gaming options for PC users, similar to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
