LG’s latest OLED monitor is soon here, with pre orders already live on the LG store. The UltraGear 32GS95UE comes with a world’s first feature as is works as both a 4K 240Hz and 1080p 480Hz monitor at the flick of a switch. However, it’s matte coating has split opinion online, as well as the lack of USB-C connectivity.

What is the dual-mode refresh rate?
Basically put, this monitor is split into two main forms. You can either run it at its native 4K resolution – here you’ll have access to a maximum 240Hz refresh rate, which is obviously nothing to complain about.
On the flip side, if you want to maximize performance, then a single button press transforms it into a 1080p resolution with a max refresh rate of 480Hz in a matter of seconds, as YouTube user optimum demonstrates in his latest video.
Further customization allows you to cut the 32″ display down to either a 27″ or 24″ size with black bars, which are more common sizes for competitive gaming. While this kind of cropping has been possible on gaming monitors in the past, this is the first time it allows for a refresh rate boost, double the Hertz no less.

Now for some complaints. The biggest issue people are highlighting with this new LG OLED is the matte coating. Generally speaking, OLEDs have stuck to a glossy look which helps colors remain at their best without any coating in the way to create a ‘fuzzy’ or dulling effect. While this is great when you’re only using it in a dark room, reflections are much more evident elsewhere.
In fact, we spotted an early negative review regarding the matte finish from one Amazon user, even before they’ve had the chance to test it out for themselves. This is a buzzkill for many OLED fans, though the video above does explain that no ‘contrast or punchiness’ is lost like some other matte displays. It also goes on to explain that text clarity is top-notch for an OLED.
There’s another downside to discuss: the lack of a USB-C port, which can be a game-changer for productivity if you’re hooking up a laptop or any other compatible peripherals. Lastly, we’ve seen a few worries regarding an onboard fan, which can be a little noisy with active cooling.
