We’re here to figure out what HDMI cable comes with Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch proved to be a massively popular console, and now it even has an OLED model to show off. We’ll be discussing both models and their support for HDMI, as well as answering which HDMI cable comes with each model.

The Nintendo Switch has a number of ports, one of which is for the HDMI cable. This is for when you want to dock the Switch and display your game on a TV or monitor. By using the HDMI, you can up the resolution to 1080p, as the handheld mode only supports 720p.

What HDMI cable comes with Nintendo Switch?

The Nintendo Switch comes with a ‘high speed’ Nintendo-branded HDMI cable. The model number for this is WUP-008 and is the same kind of cable that comes with the Wii U.

Since the Switch only displays a maximum of 1080p at 60 fps, most HDMI cables are suitable for the job. You’ll be able to use any HDMI cable which is 1.4 or newer. The cable that comes with the Nintendo Switch supports 1080p at 60Hz and 4K at 30Hz, which is in line with the 1.4 specs.

This is in contrast to the more recent HDMI 2.1 which can provide up to a 4K resolution at 144Hz (or 120Hz on flagship consoles). This isn’t required for the Switch, although HDMI is fully backwards compatible regardless.

The standard HDMI that comes with the Nintendo Switch is 4.92 feet long – this same standard cable is used on a number of recent Nintendo consoles.

What HDMI cable comes with Nintendo Switch OLED model?

The Nintendo Switch OLED model actually comes with a different HDMI cable to the base Nintendo Switch, but the changes are relatively minimal in practice. One interesting point is that the Nintendo Switch OLED does have an HDMI 2.0 port for higher bandwidth. You can’t make use of the 4K capabilities though, as you’re still capped at 60 fps and 1080p resolution with the OLED model.

The newer HDMI cable (model number HEG-005) features better build quality, being more flexible and ‘softer‘. This actually makes it easier for the cable to navigate through tight spaces.

So, even though the Nintendo Switch OLED comes with an HDMI 2.0 cable and port, it can’t really make full use of it. The OLED model focuses on other upgrades, primarily the screen, to improve upon the original.
