How We Choose

Whether we’re reviewing an Alienware monitor or the best of the rest on the market, choosing the right model can always be a tricky task.

It requires hours of product research, PC benchmarking, and reviewing user feedback to get anywhere close to a definitive conclusion on what to recommend.

If you aren’t tech-savvy and struggle to put the time aside to go through the above requirements, you may end up purchasing an Alienware monitor that isn’t right for you.

Fear not though, friends! Here at WePC, we like to take the stress of research away, and transform the whole process into an easy-to-follow, complete buyers guide. That’s right, our team of PC enthusiasts has done all the hard work for you!

How We Test

Testing the products we recommend is a huge part of the overall selection process in our best of guides. It’s a way to make sure what we recommend is, without a doubt, the best option in its specific category.

To be sure a gaming monitor is “the best,” it must show excellent performance in our tests, and display better qualities and features than the competition it faces.

Most of the products we recommend here at WePC have gone through a strict testing process that involves everything from the price and performance, to build quality, efficiency, and aesthetics. Each product is pushed to the limit to see how it performs under intense stress to make sure it warrants our coveted top spot.

Doing this enables us to provide you with the most accurate review of how the product performs and, ultimately, whether it’s worth your hard-earned cash.

Things To Consider

If you are in the market for an Alienware monitor, then chances are you are serious about gaming and want a superior display to maximize the games you love. Regardless, choosing the right monitor can be a tough task, especially when you consider the amount of money these premium monitors can set you back. Before jumping in and buying the first monitor you see, we first need to go over a few key areas to determine which monitor is the right fit for your needs.

Why Buy A Dell Alienware Monitor?

DSC00378

It is important to note that gaming monitors is an area the Alienware brand excels. They produce high-quality monitors that come with a lot of benefits and features for a wide variety of gamers. The quality is unquestionable and many find that Dell’s Alienware monitors must have some of the best quality control out there, oh and their warranty service isn’t too bad either!

If you are on the hunt for a more budget-focused gaming monitor, Alienware probably isn’t the best place to start. Alienware monitors are reserved for those either looking to create a fully immersive high-end gaming experience or play esports titles with high refresh rates.

Different Types Of Alienware Monitor

There is an Alienware monitor for everyone, almost, unless you are after a display down the budget end of the scale. Alienware has everything from ultrawide and 240Hz gaming monitors, to smaller 25” gaming monitors, and even an OLED gaming TV.

Alienware monitors don’t go any smaller than 25” with the largest ultrawide in the range spanning 38”. The gaming TV is the largest “monitor” in their range at 55” and features an OLED panel. The rest of the range feature IPS panels and vary in terms of response time, refresh rates, and resolution. You can pick up Alienware monitors with resolutions of 1080p all the way up to 4K, with 1440p being the most common.

When Did Dell Buy Alienware?

Dell purchased Alienware back in 2006, making Alienware their very own subsidiary gaming brand. As a subsidiary, Alienware kept control of it’s own design and marketing but could now benefit from Dell’s vast supply chain, lowering operating costs.

Dell, for a time, still had their XPS gaming line of PCs, which was eventually scaled down, meaning Alienware eventually became Dell’s premium gaming brand around 2008

Size

We have already discussed the sizes that are available with an Alienware monitor but what size is going to be right for you?

Monitor size comparison

We think 27” gaming monitors are somewhat in the sweet spot for most users, especially when gaming in 1080p. What monitor size you go for largely depends on the games you like to enjoy and what other uses you would like to get out of that display, such as entertainment.

If you want a full rundown on other monitor sizes, then check out our complete guide to the best monitor sizes.

Resolution

The resolution of your monitor represents the number of pixels displayed on the screen and increases the price the higher you go. A higher resolution also provides a sharper image and a better gaming experience when playing titles with high graphic detail. The only downside that comes with a higher resolution, aside from cost, is that you will need a more powerful GPU to run games in higher resolutions, so always keep this in mind.

In today’s market, these are three of the most popular monitor resolutions you can choose from:

  • Full HD (1080p)
  • 2K / QuadHD (1440p)
  • 4K / UltraHD (2160p)

While a higher resolution is generally nicer to use, you need to base what you choose on the games you play and the power of your PC. For example, if you go for a 4K monitor but can’t run games when playing in this resolution, you’re out of luck. From a gaming perspective, if you enjoy single-player games that have fantastic graphical detail, a 4K monitor could be a great way to get the most out of that experience, however, for those who love competitive play, aiming for a higher refresh rate may be a better investment.

The Alienware AW2721D may not be a cheap monitor, however, we consider this one of the best 27″ gaming monitors out there.

Along with high-quality materials and construction, we see a plethora of gaming features that will enhance your gaming experience to no end. The Nano IPS panel offers excellent viewing angles and delivers 95% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum. The monitor is very responsive, with a 1ms response time and 240Hz refresh rate that can be lowered to 144Hz easily for those that struggle to run certain games at such a high rate.

The high refresh rate makes this an ideal monitor for those that play esports titles but the color accuracy and resolution also make this ideal for a wide selection of gamers who would prefer a monitor that ticks a lot of boxes rather than specializing in just a few.

Overall, we were very impressed with this monitor, it isn’t just one of the best from Alienware, it’s one of the best, full-stop.

This Alienware ultrawide is one of the brand’s later iterations and comes with more premium features than some of the other ultrawide models they offer.

As we see across the entire rage, the build quality is phenomenal, with this feeling like it will stand the test of time. The curved 37.5″ display sucks you into the gameplay and really does immerse you more than most. The nano IPS panel supports 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and delivers an accurate color display. the monitor is surprisingly very responsive, with a 1ms G2G response time but a feature we love is the high refresh rate and G-Sync, giving you less chance of losing immersion due to screen tear. We also see HDR600, giving you even more enjoyment during those single-player campaigns.

For those that love a bit of screen real-estate or are looking for that ultimate experience when playing AAA titles, this is a great option. however, if you love competitive esports titles, this is simply going to be far too big.

A high dynamic range, quality features, and an incredible aesthetic, what a monitor this is.

Pros

Accurate color recreation

Futuristic design

Excellent gaming performance

Cons

High end price tag

The Alienware AW2720HF gaming monitor is a slightly older model but one of the best for 1080p gameplay.

Despite offering gamers a slightly cheaper alternative here, Alienware does not crimp on quality once again. This is equipped with a 240Hz refresh rate and super-low 1ms response time, giving you a competitive edge in esports titles. We recorded a 111% sRGB volume with a 98.8% coverage, both perfectly acceptable for individuals editing within the sRGB color spectrum. Both Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 measured at around 72-75% which is still good for a panel of this particular marketing.

When you compare this monitor to others in its price range, you’d have to say the AW2720HF is right up there for both value and performance, however, it is 1080p which may stop some parting with cash for the rather large price tag. Regardless this is yet another Alienware monitor that is ideal for gaming.

Extremely large color gamut – great for photo/video editing

Cons

High end price tag

The Alienware AW3420DW is up there with the best, featuring an excellent gameplay experience, superb colors, and true immersion that smaller monitors simply can’t replicate.

The 120Hz refresh rate may be considered too low for some but aside from that, the specs are high-end. This monitor provides crystal clear colors thanks to 145% sRGB gamut volume which is equivalent to 100% Adobe RGB and 98% DCI-P3. The Nano IPS panel is fantastic and made any task a joy straight out of the box. With G-Sync enabled, you get fully immersed in the games, and thanks to the lower refresh rate, it means less powerful computers can take advantage of this technology.

This monitor is more suited towards single-player titles, especially large free-roam third-person games like Red Dead and The Witcher. The colors were exciting and the 1900R curve made you feel immersed in gameplay – Overall a great curved display.
