With Samsung announcing new additions to their Odyssey gaming monitor line-up, it’s a great idea to compare the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 (2024) vs OLED G9 (2023) to see how much of a difference a year makes. Samsung have introduced a whole new range of OLED gaming monitors this year, but a new G9 so soon may come as a surprise to you.

It’s worth taking into account that Samsung released a couple of different OLED G9 variants in 2023, so we’ll be focusing on the flagship G95SC model, which the new 2024 model will directly compare to, named the G95SD. Be sure to take a look at our Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 release date page for any updates on when it comes out. With naming convention confusion hopefully out of the way, let’s take a closer look.

Taking a look at the new OLED G9 2024 specs will show you that not much has changed at all in terms of hardware specifications. Not every single detail has been confirmed officially, but many of the gaps remaining will likely be just the same as 2023’s G95SC model based on what we’ve seen so far. Given that the OLED G9 is one of the best ultrawide gaming monitors, the new model will deliver the same kind of experience. Expect to see excellent color accuracy, deep blacks thanks to per-pixel self lighting, and a highly responsive and fast panel.

OLED G9 (2024) vs OLED G9 (2023) features

Although the specs themselves don’t have too many improvements to offer, Samsung are offering some new features for the newer G95SD, so what does this SKU add? First of all, the new 2024 line-up feature OLED Glare-Free technology to reduce reflections, which implies a more matte finish to the screen. The 2023 model is pretty glossy so we can except a similar finish – that being said, the 57″ Neo G9 which released after the OLED G9 did have a matte finish, so we’ll have to wait and see here.

Changes that Samsung have officially announced include the new Multi Control feature which means you can connect compatible Samsung devices to the monitor in order to transfer text and/or images via mouse and keyboard input, akin to a KVM switch. Additionally, smart home integration is built-in with the Samsung SmartThings Hub, allowing you to connect to compatible IoT devices and take control.

The 2024 OLED G9 will also be getting access to the Samsung Smart TV platform and their Gaming Hub, making it much more than a monitor. Much like the G95SC, this gives you access to cloud gaming and streaming services straight from the monitor. We also expect to see the remote control to make a reappearance.

OLED G9 (2024) vs OLED G9 (2023) price

Samsung haven’t yet revealed the price of the new 2024 OLED G9. When the first OLED G9 was revealed in 2023, the first G95SC model would set you back a whopping $2,199.99. These days, the recommended price sits at $1,799.99 following the introduction of the cheaper G93SC model that removes the smart TV features and slots into the $1,599.99 slot. Additionally, you can find both of these 2023 OLED G9 models for much cheaper as deals are quite common.

It’s hard to judge exactly how much the new 2024 OLED G9 will cost on launch, but we can see it following a similar pattern to the previous year’s model. This should make for excellent value for money on the older models if you can find one on sale following the new release.

Is the new 2024 OLED G9 much better?

The new 2024 OLED G9 (model G95SD) doesn’t offer a massive improvement over the G95SC that came before it. The specifications remain largely the same, but Samsung do offer some improvements when it comes to features, connectivity, and integration with your other Samsung devices (whether that be a Galaxy Book, tablet, or phone) as well as Matter and Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA) devices.

It again looks to be an all-in-one entertainment system. We’re interested to see if Samsung released another SKU in 2024 for those of us that simply want a gaming monitor and have no interest in the smart features. This proved to be a popular choice with the G93SC model as it offered the best value for money for many buyers.

Should I upgrade to the OLED G9 G95SD 2024 model?

If you’re already got the OLED G9 G95SC or OLED G9 G93SC released in 2023, we see no reason to upgrade to the new 2024 OLED G9. There really aren’t enough upgrades to warrant buying a new display unless you have plenty of cash to burn and simply want the most up to date option. For those looking to upgrade to an OLED monitor or 32:9 aspect ratio display, the new OLED G9 will be the best of the best in many regards and a worth upgrade.

We see the OLED G9 as the best super ultrawide display for gaming due to the responsiveness, with the Neo G9 we reviewed being more of an all-rounder thanks to the brighter Mini-LED panel and excellent day to day use for productivity workflows without fear of burn-in, in the long term.

Final word

We don’t expect anyone to be ditching their existing OLED G9 for the new 2024 model, but it does offer a decent refresh for the flagship OLED model. There aren’t too many changes to rant and rave about, but some new features offer a little extra functionality if that’s what you’re looking for.
