This pair of high-end monitors pack a serious punch, but it’s Samsung’s 57″ Neo G9 that comes out as the winner based on the specs. It has the edge in a number of different areas where the Z57 falls short. Both of them feature a massive 57″ dual 4K panel at a super ultrawide 32:9 aspect ratio, making them amazing for productivity and immersive gaming.

The Z57 supports just 120Hz as opposed to the Neo G9’s 240Hz. Worth noting that this high 240Hz refresh rate can only be achieved via the G9’s DisplayPort 2.1 connectivity which is currently only supported by AMD’s RX 7000 series GPUs, but it’s likely coming to the RTX 50 series in future. The Z57 opts for just DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1, both of which are enough for the 120Hz refresh rate.

Both feature Mini-LED backlighting to achieve an impressive DisplayHDR 1000 rating for high luminance and strong color accuracy, though the Neo G9 has slightly more local dimming zones for richer visuals. The screen curvature is also the same between them, so both offer equal immersion.

We look back to the specs of these two to understand how well they perform in gaming scenarios. With such a high 7680 x 2160 resolution to cater for, you’re going to need the best graphics card money can buy to make the most of it during demanding gaming workloads.

Due to their large 57″ screen size, both can offer an immersive gaming experience at a super high screen resolution for crisp visuals. If you’re going to use a monitor like this for gaming, you should really stick to non-competitive games where you can sit back and take in all the details. Singleplayer, story-driven, or open world games come to mind.

The Neo G9 supports up to 240Hz for the smoothest visuals on paper, but Nvidia’s flagship RTX 4090 only supports as high as 144Hz via HDMI 2.1 at this dual 4K resolution. AMD’s RX 7900 XTX does feature DisplayPort 2.1 for the full 240Hz experience, but getting a high enough framerate to really warrant it will be a struggle. So, while the Z57 does have a lower 120Hz refresh rate, it isn’t too shabby at all and is great for smooth gameplay if you have the power to back it up.

Response time is another gaming-friendly spec to consider, and the Neo G9 lists a 1ms GTG response time to help reduce any blurriness or unwanted monitor ghosting. We don’t yet know how the Z57 fares here, but we expect at least 1ms on any modern gaming monitor. FreeSync tech also adds to overall smoothness by mitigating screen tearing and stuttering, the Neo G9 has the edge here with the Premium Pro standard for the very best coverage.

Overall, it would appear that the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is the winner between these two high-end monitors. It one-ups the Z57 in a number of different categories, which is surprisingly not reflected in the price given their equal MSRPs. It is also the best gaming monitor between these two thanks to its higher refresh rate ceiling which is more future-proof for upcoming GPUs.

Even though they both feature very similar designs and technology, Samsung boasts a higher number of local dimming zones, higher refresh rate, more up-to-date display connectivity, and even marginally better VRR support. One thing the Acer Predator Z57 has going for it though is the USB-C connectivity with 90W power delivery, possibility making it better for productivity along side its built-in KVM switch.
