The new AMD B550 motherboards are designed to support the newest CPUs, the Ryzen 3 3100 and Ryzen 3 3300X. These motherboards will be vital to supporting the CPUs so we’ve been keeping an eye on how much they cost.

For those who are thinking of purchasing one of the new CPUs, Gigabyte and MSI have recently announced their pricing.

Gigabyte has 11 B550 motherboards coming out soon, details of which were posted on Reddit. MSI had a two-hour livestream where details of their 11 motherboards were announced too.

The most surprising thing about the prices announced is that they are much more than what you’d expect to pay for a budget X570 motherboard.

Up until recently, the X570 chipset motherboards were the only PCIe 4.0 for Ryzen 3000 CPUs. Most manufacturers offered affordable versions of X570 chipset boards. This makes the high price attached to B550 a bit strange. Why would anyone purchase an expensive B550 board when an X570 budget one will do?

How Much Are The New Gigabyte And MSI B550 Motherboards?

Gigabyte is currently offering the B550 Aorus Master at the top of their line which will retail at $279. MSI’s top offering is the MSI B550 Gaming Carbon Wifi which is priced at $219.

Down the line, Gigabyte is also offering the B550M DS3H micro-ATX board for $94 and the MSI B550M Pro-Dash is going for $119. The downside of these is that there will be fewer PCIe slots due to the smaller form factor. However, they are a lot more affordable than the high-end ones.

Elsewhere in the announcements, Gigabyte also has the Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro for $129 and the MSI B550-A Pro is priced at $139. There is a whole lot of difference between these two boards, it’s just the memory support that differs. The MSI board also offers a DisplayPort as well as an HDMI, whereas the Gigabyte offering only supports HDMI. This is important to consider if you’re thinking of using an APU with the board.

While pricing certainly varies between models and manufacturers, you can typically pick up a budget X570 chipset motherboard for around $160. Will the jump in price result in a huge performance improvement? It’s hard to say for sure without seeing the boards in action.

If we hear any more news about performance or the B550 offerings from other manufacturers such as ASUS, we will keep you updated.
